Life & Work with Juliana Hicks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Hicks.

Hi Juliana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Latinx L.I.F.E. (Latinas Empowering Higher Education) was founded in 2018 by 6 UNC Greensboro alumnae.

From our time in university, we saw an increase of Latinx students achieving higher education. We were inspired by the increase and wanted to offer support. From high school to young adulthood, we help the youth in North Carolina navigate education & health, enhance self-advocacy, & supply them with workforce development tools.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were definitely some struggles. From starting an NGO from scratch to becoming active members of the community, it has been a long road. Some additional obstacles were obtaining funding to be able to support our plans for helping the community.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the president of Latinx LIFE. I specialize in social media communications and business relations. I am proud to be self-made and my dedication to the non-profit sector. Aside from Latinx LIFE, I am also part of two other non-profits giving me experience in the sector in various positions.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I tend to listen to My Favorite Murder or any other crime podcasts. They keep me entertained while focusing on various tasks.

They make my workday seem less of a routine. Outside of work, I tend to put on my personal playlist and have solo dance parties to relax my muscles after sitting down for long periods of time.
