Today we’d like to introduce you to Kai Diaz.
Hi Kai, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I came to Charlotte in 2023. I transferred over from the University of North Carolina Wilmington after deciding I needed to be independent. I started here in the fall of 2023. I moved in with a few roommates and started my journey into adulthood. Nervous but ready, I knew what I wanted to do. I found a passion within photography and started small by going to local shows like the Milestone and Snug Harbor to take photos. I started to transition to the Ninertimes within UNC Charlotte and from there I’ve been taking photos for them and my own time.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been smooth I struggled a lot with addiction and mental health issues,
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in concert photography for local shows. I’m known for my ninertimes work and being able to come up to bands and people and make them comfortable with me to take non posed photos with.
What were you like growing up?
I was very shy growing up. I had a lot of whimsy when I was a kid and was always creative. I always drew and painted. Anything I could do to express myself I would.
