Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay’C Clarke.
Hi Kay’C, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into modeling and art developed naturally over time. I’ve always been a creative person and someone who expresses myself through how I present myself—through fashion, design, and the way I carry my identity. Growing up, I loved anything creative, especially art and crafts. I was always the person making things, experimenting with different ideas, and finding ways to turn imagination into something visual. Being intersex and having both masculine and feminine features has also shaped a lot of my perspective on beauty and self-expression. For a long time I didn’t fully realize that the things that made me different could actually become strengths within the fashion industry.
In 2017 I was scouted by Barbizon in New York City, which was the moment modeling first became something tangible for me. From there, I began gaining experience and building confidence by stepping into different creative spaces and runway opportunities. I’ve had the chance to walk in shows with Charlotte Fashion Collective, CL’s Runway, and Charlotte Seen, experiences that allowed me to grow while connecting with designers, creatives, and new audiences. Each show helped me understand the industry more and develop my own presence on the runway.
Modeling has always been a dream of mine, but what makes it meaningful for me is how closely it connects to art. I’ve always loved creating—whether through art, fashion, styling, or designing different looks—and modeling became a place where those interests naturally come together. Being able to step onto a runway and bring someone’s design to life feels like a form of art in motion. I’m still growing and discovering what my path in the industry looks like, but at the core of it, modeling and art have always been the spaces where I feel most like myself.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My path hasn’t always been smooth, and I think that’s true for most people in creative fields. Early on, I struggled with understanding how to embrace my identity and see my differences as strengths rather than something to hide. Being intersex and having features that don’t fit neatly into society’s standard ideas of beauty definitely came with its challenges, especially when I was younger and trying to figure out where I belonged. The modeling industry itself can also be tough—there’s a lot of competition, rejection, and pressure to fit into certain expectations. Some shows or opportunities didn’t work out, or I faced moments where I questioned whether I was cut out for this path. But each struggle taught me something important about resilience, self-expression, and staying true to who I am. Over time, those challenges became less like obstacles and more like part of the journey that shaped my confidence, creativity, and determination to keep going
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an artist and creative, I see the world as a space full of possibilities to explore and express. I work across fashion, makeup, design, and traditional art and crafts, finding inspiration in textures, colors, shapes, and the stories they can tell. Over time, I’ve realized that the most powerful form of art is our own bodies—how we move, present ourselves, and use style as a way to communicate who we are. Modeling and fashion became my way to bring that vision to life, combining performance, creativity, and personal expression into every look and moment.
What excites me most about my work is the freedom it gives to experiment, challenge norms, and push boundaries. Every runway, photoshoot, or piece I create is an opportunity to explore identity, emotion, and storytelling in a way that words alone can’t capture. I love the idea that art can be lived, experienced, and shared—it can provoke thought, inspire confidence, or simply make someone feel seen. For me, creating isn’t just a craft—it’s a way to connect, express, and leave a mark that goes beyond the surface, shaping not just images, but experiences and perspectives.
What matters most to you? Why?
What has always mattered most to me in my work is the freedom to create and express something honest. I’ve always been someone who loved creating, whether it was through art, crafts, fashion, or experimenting with different looks. Over time I started to realize that the most powerful form of art is our own bodies—how we carry ourselves, how we move, and how we choose to present ourselves to the world. Fashion and modeling gave me a space where all of those things could come together. A runway, a photoshoot, or even a simple look can become a way to tell a story without saying a word. That idea continues to inspire me, because it reminds me that creativity doesn’t always have to live on a canvas or in a gallery—it can exist in the way we live, express ourselves, and bring our imagination into the world.
