Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Alley.
Hi Kendra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started out as a Division I gymnast, so movement, discipline, and body awareness have always been part of my DNA. After college, fitness naturally became my entry point, but motherhood is what reshaped my purpose. As my life evolved, so did the way I approached wellness. I became less interested in “bouncing back” and more focused on building strength, longevity, and confidence in a way that fit real life.
I launched my online fitness platform, barreALLEY, as a way to make movement accessible, sustainable, and empowering for women, especially moms. Over time, I began sharing more of my everyday life, what I was learning about health, aging, balance, and showing up fully in each season, because consistency is a superpower. That authenticity resonated, and my community grew organically.
Today, my work sits at the intersection of wellness, motherhood, and lifestyle. I create content, partner with brands I genuinely use and trust, and build businesses that reflect the life I’m living. Im also launching my own business this year too! Everything I do is rooted in the same belief: you don’t have to choose between caring for yourself and caring for your family. You can do both thoughtfully, confidently, and with intention.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most entrepreneurial journeys, it’s been layered with trial and error, pivots, and a lot of learning in real time. One of the biggest challenges has been navigating growth while raising a family. Your capacity changes, your priorities shift, and you have to constantly recalibrate what success looks like in each season. I constantly feel like I’m failing in some part of my life, but the fun is in the challenge to balance it all and make it happen.
There were moments where I questioned whether I was doing enough, growing fast enough, or showing up the “right” way. Building something online also means learning to trust your own voice, even when comparison or outside noise creeps in.
But those challenges forced me to slow down, get clearer on my values, and build things more intentionally. Every struggle refined my direction. What felt hard at the time ultimately helped me create a career and businesses that are more aligned, sustainable, and meaningful.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At the core of my work is helping women feel strong, confident, and capable in their everyday lives. I create wellness and lifestyle content rooted in low-impact movement, longevity, and realistic habits, especially for women in their 40s who are navigating motherhood, careers, and changing bodies. My background as a Division I gymnast shapes how I approach movement: intentionally, safely, and with respect for the body.
I’m known for blending fitness with real life. I don’t separate wellness from motherhood or style or home. It’s all connected. Whether I’m creating workouts, sharing routines that support healthy aging, or designing spaces and products for families, everything is meant to feel achievable and grounded.
What I’m most proud of is the community I’ve built. It’s a sisterhood really. It’s thoughtful, engaged, and values substance over hype. I partner only with brands I truly use and trust, and I build businesses that reflect my actual life, not an aspirational one. That integrity is what sets my work apart. I’m not trying to be everything to everyone. I’m focused on doing meaningful work well, and doing it in a way that lasts.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
My husband and I always dreamed about providing a nostalgic childhood for our three boys. We nailed it. Wake Forest, It feels connected in a way that’s increasingly rare. It’s a place where relationships matter, and people want to show up for you and your people.. There’s also a strong appreciation for quality of life here, time outside, supporting local, and creating a life that feels both full and grounded.
What I like least is probably how quickly the city is growing. Growth brings opportunity, but it also comes with growing pains. Things feel busier, faster, and sometimes less personal than they used to. Seeing all of the growth and changes is eual parts exciting and overwhelming.
