Today we’d like to introduce you to Keshon Smith.
Hi Keshon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Music, the art that makes reality has been around me since my birth in, 1999. My grandma would slide her cd into her CD Player and play old soul groups like Earth, Wind, and Fire and The Temptations all day long. “My girl, My girl, My girl” would be a daily routine for her but her favorite artist of all time was James Brown. His dance moves and singing high notes for 8 seconds straight would drive my grandma crazy and would also fill me with joy inside. I grew up knowing every lyric to every popular song, or at least popular to me. and that’s when I knew that it was something about music that I wanted to do in terms of a career, I just didn’t have a plan. You know, as we get older, we go through life-changing experiences that we rarely share or even at least talk about with our loved ones and I was one of those people.
In college, one of my great friends was an excellent writer and I asked him how does he do it. He responded, “Just write what you feel, and trust me, it’ll heal.” As time passed, it was something that I would turn into a good form of expression so I started writing and I recorded my first song at age 18. Now I’m at the age of 23, beginning an endless journey of learning, growing, and self-healing each day, and every year as an artist. I always tell people to do things that would inspire other people and I use my own advice because I feel like music inspires me to be me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, without a plan or purpose, you lose yourself. At one point I remember I was literally jobless for a few months, was behind on bills, in a new relationship, and had no idea what I was doing in life. I started asking myself why am I wasting so much time on things I don’t love doing.
So along the road to becoming the greatest version of myself, I had to picture who I wanted to be in my mind or even be self-aware of who and what that person does on a daily basis and adapt to the pattern of a successful businessman, whether that be physical or even mental. It’s a lot that I can admit of what I have gone through in the past years. but one of my first steps was reading books like “Think Rich Be Rich”, Rich Dad Poor Dad, and The Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success to deal with my rebellious attitude. I admit that knowledge is in books and they make you much wiser learning about other people’s paths through life and how you should react to certain life situations.
Life has more failures than wins because failures teach you how to win and how to maintain a clear mind while achieving as much. If you always won, there would be no lessons learned.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a music artist, and record producer from Rocky Mount, NC. SmokeX is composed of many different elements in music that will keep being pursued until the craft is mastered. One of my greatest accomplishments so far includes one of my songs titled “Thoughts” which is now close to 80k streams and releasing my first EP called “Remastered” which is close to 100k streams. Also, meeting new fans and creative collaborators, and being able to record my music and have fun while I’m doing it.
This is only the beginning of the journey but the pace is packed down, and I have more people to inspire through my sound, morals, and values as a music artist. I know my vision will reveal through smart work and consistency.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m a middle child of 3. My favorite movie is Rush Hour. My favorite seasoning is Lemon Pepper and Old Bay. My favorite fruit is mangoes.
