Today we’d like to introduce you to Lamont Williams.
Hi Lamont, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I am a self-taught cook that has a deep passion for cooking. Being in the kitchen and being able to put a smile on someone’s face is everything to me. Cooking started as just a hobby for me. I hit a rough patch in life and was battling depression. It had me in a real tight chokehold. To the point, it pulled me down the road to alcohol & it was starting to take over my life. At that moment I knew it was time for a change & it instantly changed my life. I would look at pictures and/or videos and would duplicate what I was seeing.
I knew I didn’t want to lose my life behind alcohol & the negative choices I was making because God had something in store for me. He had blessed me with an amazing talent and the ability to work and bless others. This part of my life has been private for nearly 6 years. I felt now was the perfect time for my voice & story to be heard because someone somewhere could be going through the same situation.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say it has definitely not been a smooth ride. Working a full-time job with multiple shift, being called in for overtime. Or having to work on your day off and canceling plans to be in the kitchen was starting to put me in a slump to where I was falling back farther and farther from the kitchen and my dreams.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Mont’s Kitchen isn’t just food being slapped on a plate. I give a complete experience from the beginning to the very end. Brunches, private dinners, picnics, church events, girls’ night in, wedding receptions, and even Sunday family dinners. Each event gets the same energy, thought, and love put into them. A few minutes into the event and we will all feel like we’re family.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been the outspoken, team player-type of person. From a child and the way into adulthood. I never really showed any interest in cooking growing up; I was a sports kid. Only time I stepped into the kitchen was when it was time to eat lol.
