Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Hollander
Hi Megan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Wake County and attended WCPSS schools. I was a NC Teaching Fellow at UNC-Chapel Hill and earned a BA in Elementary Education then returned back to WCPSS as a teacher. After five years at Wiley Elementary, I earned my National Board Certification and won the Fulbright-Hays award to India. Then I moved with my now husband to Washington DC and taught at the Washington International School. Our first child was born there and we returned back to NC as we continued to grow our family. I left teaching to be the primary care provider for our three children. Two years ago I joined Magic Managed, a small travel planning agency that focuses primarily on Disney Parks vacations. Working for Magic Managed combines so many things I love: Disney, efficiency, time management, building relationships, making others feel confident and comfortable, and sharing my advice.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having three children in four years had it’s moments! The Covid pandemic starting when our oldest was in kindergarten was pretty challenging. I felt so privileged to have an elementary education background in order to help navigate that difficult time.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I grew up loving the Disney Parks so working for Magic Managed as a planner was a logical step. My vacation planning approach is thoughtful and intentional so that everyone’s experience is as positive as possible. I am a Star Wars nerd and couldn’t be happier that it’s a part of the Disney Parks experience. My favorite attraction is the Haunted Mansion, my *current* favorite character is Tiana, and my favorite resort is the Polynesian. You can find me posted up at Baseline Taphouse enjoying a beer and a pretzel, at Nomad Lounge waving at boat-riding characters, and taking in every detail in Galaxy’s Edge. 50% of the reason I go to Disney Parks is to enjoy the food and beverages, so I’m always here with an opinion on restaurants (and well, most things). I’ve taken my kids as young as 11 weeks old and have experience managing trips with babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged kids, as well as grandparents! My plans, strategies, and expertise are crucial for a successful trip. I take clients from overwhelmed to prepared.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
It’s ok if kids miss a few days of school! I know. As a former teacher and parent this is maybe an unpopular take but really if Covid taught me anything it’s that kids are resilient, learning can take place anywhere, and leaning in to joy is important.
