Life & Work with Molly Tieng

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Tieng.

Hi Molly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a first-generation American originating of Cambodian descent. I am the first person on my mother’s side born on American soil after both of my parents’ families were sponsored to America by Christian churches during the Cambodian genocide in the late 70s.

My mom’s side of the family started life in America, working in the furniture industry, and my dad’s side began working in the jewelry industry.

Their marriage was arranged. When I watched my father work his way to becoming a jewelry store owner and me and my sister going to work with our parents, we were first introduced to the amazing world of fine jewelry.

My dad was an amazing skills man at jewelry repair and creating custom jewelry. My mom handled sales and logistics. Growing up in the business, I developed a deep love and passion for fine jewelry.

I am now taking everything I learned by second nature from my parent’s experience and have evolved it into my own! I currently operate as a private luxury jeweler, channeling and curating bespoke jewelry designs, looks, and styles for authentic clients with their truest selves and who value quality products and exceptional relationships.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way? The biggest obstacle of what I’m trying to achieve is I am creating a completely different lane of my own in a well-established, multibillion-dollar market. Although I have the background knowledge and experience from my family business, the path which I decided to take has no blueprint.

Trial and error are inevitable at the beginning of building a solid foundation. Having a crystal-clear vision, and deciding on actionable steps to execute the vision is a learning and growing process. I am also a single mother and my son’s father passed away in 2019. It has definitely put strain and grief on my journey and turning it into power and inspiration has been extremely challenging. Another obstacle is competing with jewelers who may offer a lower quality but make the product more appealing to consumers with their price point.

I have a true loyalty to certified quality-made jewelry, and the world today makes it rarer to connect with others sharing the same value of quality. Staying true and authentic to myself, my beliefs and my products may take a while longer to attract the clientele I’m aiming for, but I definitely expect my brand to be one that outlasts my lifetime.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I focus on building relationships with each client, one at a time. I am genuine and intentional about getting to know them as a person, their loved ones, and their sense of style and individuality.

My job is to help them choose or design jewelry that symbolizes their true authentic selves and create it to be precious enough to serve as a family heirloom to be passed down to their generations. I am a certified gemologist and can educate my clients on choosing the perfect diamond.

I go above and beyond and make recommendations for future holidays or help plan an engagement or other surprise. I am a personal and personable jeweler who can be trusted as part of the family!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I am available for consultations by appointment. Distance and time don’t limit my ability to meet with the right clients. I work with you and for you and aim to make luxury jewelry buying not a price point, but an experience!
