Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Green Rodeniser.
Hi Natalie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I always wanted to have my own business, yet it has looked different over the years. I wanted to be a pastry chef and photographer or use my hands in some way. Being a soap artisan allows me to utilize my passion for recipe creation, design, and photography all in one business!
After making many many batches of soap and perfecting my lip balm and body butter recipes, I decided to launch Green Girl Naturals in August 2018. I started selling through my website and attending local pop-up markets in the Raleigh area. I have since been able to expand my business through wholesale where we offer our products throughout stores in NC.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Owning a business and building it from scratch has not been easy. I have had to work other full-time jobs while slowly building and editing my brand. I had to slowly learn what makes a business successful and how to get it there. I have done most of the work myself up until this point with the help of my supportive husband who is a sounding board for me when making big financial moves.
I have switched gears a few times between attending pop-up markets, gaining wholesale accounts, and selling online. My biggest challenge still is marketing via social media. I typically struggle to share my personal life with strangers and it has become even more difficult to share my story, and myself, via social media.
Despite the difficulties of running a business, I appreciate the challenges I have faced along the way because it has made me more patient, determined, and tougher.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We offer artisan bar soaps, face soaps and oils, lip balms, body butters, and crochet washcloths. We believe natural simplicity is what is best for our bodies and the environment. We create soaps and products to gently cleanse and moisturize sensitive skin without burdening the body with heavy chemicals, fragrances, or colorants. Plus all of our packaging are recyclable and/or backyard compostable!
Most artisan soaps today are either beautifully crafted or all-natural. We combine the simple beauty of soap art with truly pure and natural ingredients to give you the joy of showering with art while not compromising on quality!
We also are passionate about education and healthy dialogue so we write a monthly blog post on our blog, The Leaf, to educate people on the importance of simple and intentional living.
How do you think about happiness?
I am at my happiest when I am able to live simply. I used to want all the things society says we should want to live the “American Dream” but have learned none of that brings me peace and joy. I don’t want a large house, new cars, and technology, or even tons of travel in my life. I am happiest when I live in a small space with only what I need and enjoy daily.
I love having the time to play board games with my husband and our friends, play with our cats, garden, hike, and refinish furniture. When I think of my business, it is a reflection of my own personal goals, a simple product line, crafted with intentionality for those who appreciate the simple beauty and natural skincare.
