Today we’d like to introduce you to Natascha Hanner.
Hi Natascha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The lady behind Inkvictus Studios. To say getting here was a crazy ride is an understatement, but I’ll say it definitely all led me to where I am today. Prior to opening Inkvictus, I dropped out of college and spent time working in a variety of different industries. Finance, graphic design, photography and drafting… just to name a few. Despite my individual love for each of these career paths, I felt like there was more out there calling my name. Something that would allow me to both help people and expand my abilities as an artist. Then as fate would have it, I stumbled across the world of cosmetic tattooing. At the bold age of twenty-three, I jumped headfirst into the rest of my life and opened my very own cosmetic tattooing studio. Since then, I have tattooed over 300 people and it’s been the most humbling experience imaginable.
Finding someone who represents your brand the way you do, works hard right alongside you and is someone who can be trusted with your shop has been the hardest part of adding to our team until I met Kat. We met briefly and I immediately knew she was the right amount of Inkvictus wrapped in a stylish shell. I’m so incredibly grateful to have her along for the ride.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I opened in September of 2019, and if I’m being completely honest, I was literally only tattooing to pay my rent and supply costs. I took as many clients at discounted rates as possible to be able to afford my bills. When I wasn’t tattooing, I was studying. I’m a huge learner and want to know as much about something as possible.
Less than six months after opening, quarantine happened and we were forced to shut down for a number of weeks.
I took the shut down as a time to dive into learning even more, I practiced nearly every single day and really wanted to grasp on to every aspect of tattooing. It’s not just a needle, machine, and pigment. I wanted to learn what each part of the machine was for, how it controlled the needle, what the ingredients in pigments are and then some. Once we reopened, my portfolio and business tripled.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a cosmetic tattoo artist located in Raleigh, NC. I specialize in permanent make-up and cultivating confidence. I’m very proud of the fact I am well known in the city and a top studio offering what we do. I can say that what sets us apart from others is the fact that we truly care about our industry and want people to be educated and understand the process – whether they become our clients or go elsewhere, we still care about them and their skin. I worked in the service industry for over eight years, Milton’s Pizza & Pasta to be exact, and I was taught to be kind and treat everyone like family. You get that at Inkvictus Studios. You walk in and you’re accepted for who you are, no matter who you are. We hype each other up and we’re so grateful for every single person that walks in our door.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t really believe in luck if I’m being honest. I’ve always been a driven individual. I’m a go getter, and when I set my mind to something, I’m going to make it happen. I knew when I dove into cosmetic tattooing, I was going to make it work. “Invictus” means “unconquered, invincible, undefeated” which is exactly why “Inkvictus” is the name of my studio. We’re going to thrive no matter what. It’s not about luck, it’s about seeing what you want a running full force towards it and giving it everything you’ve got.
