Today we’d like to introduce you to Pat Zande.
Hi Pat, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My interest in astrology began when I was only 7 years old. My elderly babysitter, Mrs. Davis, and I would always work on the daily newspaper crossword puzzle together, and one day I asked about the horoscopes.
She lit up and said, “Oh those tell you what’s going to happen today!” I was floored. Why isn’t this on the front page?!? So I read them everyday and shared them with my family. Some days they were uncanny, and they were based only on your birthday.
Then, in my freshman year of college, I had a professor who taught me about the many layers of astrology beyond your birthday or sun sign. As I went deeper into my study of astrology and learned about rising signs, houses and planetary aspects, I was amazed at how accurate it could be.
I finished my degree in world literature from the University of Notre Dame and went on to work in a variety of fields including music, public education and international business. Eventually I realized career fulfillment would come only through my passion for astrology, and Lakeview Astrology was born.
Now, I focus on providing deep-dive personalized readings for individuals, and I also offer readings for groups at parties, corporate events and at astrology nights in coffee houses and pubs around town. Seeing clients get that spark of insight that astrology provides is so rewarding. I will never retire from this.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Well, I’ve had many ups and downs in my professional and creative life, but it’s all led me back to astrology. I probably had to go through all that other stuff to come to the realization that this is what I love. So for now it’s slow, steady growth, and as they say “Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m proud to offer a concierge-style astrology service from a transcendent Raleigh location with inspiring views that reflect the wisdom my clients uncover in their readings.
Unlike many astrologers that adhere to one tradition and a handful of favored techniques, I am able to blend many different astrological styles and devices in ways that are unique to each reading. Astrology is part art and part science, like music. One can analyze music theory, different genres, different instruments, or a variety of techniques, but at the end of the day, it’s all about the song. Sometimes the song calls for specific instrumentation, special styles or quirky time signatures. Likewise, a meaningful reading may call for a specialized blend of different astrological traditions, myths or techniques. I understand that my clients are the experts on their own charts, and it’s my job to help them translate the story the stars are telling us. The more tools I have to do that, the better the reading will be.
After the reading, they leave with not only an audio recording of the reading but also a copy of my type-written notes that include specifics on their planetary placements, aspects, web-links and much more. This way, they can continue their research if they wish. In fact, many clients email me weeks and months after their readings with questions or comments, and I’m happy to keep the conversation going.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Raleigh’s fierce independent streak. Sure we have plenty of chain restaurants, but we also have local titans like Poole’s Diner, Irregardless Cafe and Char-Grill. Our music scene may have lots of cover bands and Live Nation venues, but we also host Hopscotch, one of the premier independent music festivals, and boast eclectic venues like, Slim’s, King’s and the Berkeley Cafe, which is were I first played in Raleigh in 1994, and it still thrives. One of our most storied landmarks is “The Free Expression Tunnel,” and I think that reflects Raleigh’s indie attitude.
As for things I think we could improve upon in Raleigh, gentrification is a double-edged sword that we could wield with greater consciousness, empathy and long-term vision. Capitalism conditions people to seek quick financial “wins”, but I don’t believe resource management is a zero-sum game. There’s actually enough for all to prosper. We just have to peacefully wrest excess out of the hands of a few, and I’d love to see Raleigh show the world how it’s done.
