Life & Work with Paulo Simoes of Wake Forest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulo Simoes.

Hi Paulo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my media career in Dallas TX, where I graduated from college with a communications degree. At that time, I was running video cameras for local studios and live events, as well as working as a young production assistant.

A few years later, I transitioned to the exciting film industry and worked for three years for Universal Studios and 17 years for Sony Pictures, having the privilege of living and working in Brazil, Puerto Rico, Spain, Italy, and the U.S. During this period, I was involved in the creation and launch of over 400 film marketing and commercial campaigns, learning and collaborating with some of the smartest people I ever met.

After leaving the film industry in 2011, I moved back to the U.S. and gradually went back to my video production roots, creating Brios Media Group; a boutique video production company/studio that provides corporate and business video services.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My professional road has been an exciting one. I worked alongside very creative and smart professionals who taught me a lot about business, negotiating, marketing, and video/film production.

My biggest challenge was transitioning from running a multination branch of Sony Pictures in Italy to becoming the owner of a small business. Moving from endless resources and teams to becoming the owner and creative director of my own business, having to wear many hats at once, and leaving a secure paycheck to having a project-based income.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Brios Media helps clients that are typically looking to generate more engagement with their audiences stand out from their competition, and are interested in presenting themselves in a more professional way. We help them achieve their goals through video.

We specialize in the production of Testimonial Videos, About Us/Me videos, Case Study Videos, Public Service Announcements, Produce/Service Launch videos, Event and Promo videos, Video Training, Commercials, and more. I believe that I bring a different perspective to our clients by having worked in the corporate world and having been on “the other side of the table” (where they are now).

We’re also very “cinematic” in our filming and editing style and focus on a strong storytelling aspect. We also simplify the video production process for our clients, making it smooth and straightforward.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
There are so many lessons I’ve learned along my professional journey, but what stands out to me now is that there aren’t cookie-cutter paths to success and the definition of success itself will be different for each person based on their values and experiences.

What matters at the end of the day is waking up every morning and being excited about what you do and having the drive to learn new things every day and be a little better than the day before. And… enjoy the ride! Working solely for great accomplishments is just not worth it.
