Hi Pradeep, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
More than just a place to grab a drink, we wanted to create a welcoming space where people could gather with family and friends, share stories, and make lasting memories — which is exactly how the name “Hoppy Tales” came to life.
A year ago, the idea for Hoppy Tales was born with a simple vision: to bring a self-pour taproom experience to Fuquay-Varina and create a place where people could gather, with family and friends, share stories, and make lasting memories with family and friends, share stories over drinks, and make lasting memories. That vision inspired our name — Hoppy Tales.
We wanted to build a cozy, welcoming space for the community where guests have the freedom to explore and enjoy craft beverages at their own pace without the pressure of committing to a full pint. With our self-pour concept, guests have the freedom to sample and discover multiple beers at their own pace while enjoying good company and creating new memories together. Whether you’re discovering a new favorite or simply enjoying time with loved ones, Hoppy Tales is all about connection, conversation, and great experiences shared together.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey of building Hoppy Tales has been filled with new experiences, discoveries, and countless learning opportunities. As first-time business owners, we had to step into an entirely new world and learn many things from the ground up — sometimes the hard way.
As Fuquay-Varina continued to grow and its downtown became more vibrant, we knew that was where we wanted Hoppy Tales to be. That part was an easy decision. Everything after that became a journey of learning and persistence — understanding the nuances of construction, navigating permits, selecting and installing tap systems, curating beer selections, and figuring out how to bring our vision to life.
We spent countless hours researching, planning, adjusting, and even re-doing certain elements to create the welcoming space you see today. While the process came with its challenges, it has also been incredibly rewarding. Looking back, it has been a meaningful and exciting journey so far, and we’re grateful to continue growing alongside this amazing community.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My professional background is in biotechnology, and I hold a Ph.D. in Biology. I currently work as an R&D leader at an AgTech startup in the Research Triangle Park area. Working in a startup environment has taught me invaluable entrepreneurial skills and gave me the confidence to help start a small business like Hoppy Tales.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve also had the opportunity to lead diverse and complex teams, which helped shape my approach to building a strong team at Hoppy Tales. Those experiences taught me the importance of hiring great people, creating a positive culture, and delivering memorable experiences for customers.
I came to the United States nearly 20 years ago to pursue my post-doctoral studies. Since then, I’ve lived in several states and met many incredible people who have greatly influenced my personal and professional journey. The opportunities I’ve received in this country have allowed me to grow in ways I never imagined — from building a scientific career to now starting a business with friends and becoming part of a vibrant local community.
Being able to pursue both science and entrepreneurship is something I deeply appreciate, and it reflects the opportunities that are possible here in the United States.
What matters most to you?
People and experiences matter the most to me. As humans, we are naturally social beings, and some of life’s most meaningful moments come from the memories we create together.
At Hoppy Tales, our goal has always been to create more than just a taproom. We wanted to build a space where people can gather, connect, celebrate, unwind, and share stories with the people who matter to them. Whether it’s a casual drink with friends, a family outing, a first date, a celebration, or simply discovering a new favorite beer, we hope Hoppy Tales becomes a small but meaningful part of your journey and your life story.
