Today we’d like to introduce you to Rijhanique Brown.
Rijhanique, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been in the clinical research space now for 5 years. I originally began my career in the pharmaceutical industry. I worked in that industry for 8 years. I had no idea what clinical trials was or how to transition into the space. I came across Black Women in Clinical Research on LinkedIn and took a chance and reached out. I was intrigued on how they supported black women and the representation. I ended up becoming a Brand Ambassador because I believe in what our mission stands for to educate, empower and support black women in navigating the clinical research industry. Thanks to BWICR I have spoken at one of our annual conferences, been a panelist at a university and now been given the opportunity to do a magazine interview. I’m thankful for the continued support and the life long friends I have made in this organization.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road at all. When I first transitioned into the clinical research industry from the pharmaceutical industry I had to take a huge pay cut and start at an entry level position. It felt like I was starting over from the bottom. It was discouraging at times. Starting over was definitely a learning curve. I’m thankful that I have transferrable skills that I could utilize when I transitioned. The process grew me to where I am now. I truly believe that all things happen the way they’re supposed to.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Clinical Quality Assurance Specialist in the clinical research industry, where I help ensure that clinical trials are conducted ethically, safely, and in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and regulatory requirements. My work includes auditing clinical sites, vendors, and internal processes to identify risks, improve quality systems, and ultimately help protect the integrity of research and the patients who participate in clinical trials. What sets me apart is my attention to detail, integrity, and commitment to continuous improvement. I don’t just identify issues, I focus on finding practical solutions that strengthen processes and prevent future risks. One of the accomplishments I’m most proud of was identifying a significant quality issue during a site audit that had gone unnoticed, allowing the team to address it before it could have been a greater impact. Beyond my profession, I am passionate about mentoring others, increasing diversity in clinical research and encouraging the next generation of professionals through organizations like Black Women in Clinical Research. I believe quality is about more than compliance, its about protecting people, advancing science , and making a meaningful difference in healthcare.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have been very fortunate to have had a mentor through Black Women in clinical research. Being able to have her expertise and knowledge definitely played a big role in my success. Also my friends and family who support me and always encourages me not to dim my light for others. They helped me to stay confident and resilient when challenges rose
