Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Jacomet.
Alright Samantha, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have some challenges in life, but they won’t hold me down. My family has created Willys Cinnamon Rolls etc in Pittsboro, North Carolina to help me succeed in life. Willy (short for Willmetta), my grandmother made the best ooey gooey cinnamon rolls around. So my father taught me how to make them just the way she made them and people just love them. They love them so much that folks come from all over North Carolina and this part of the country to have some. They love them so much that I ship them all over the United States, two-day priority with UPS. Everything is here in this small micro-bakery from equipment to fixtures has been donated and repurposed. So as my grandmother was frugal, so have I become like her.
That way I have learned to be successful. I purchase locally our milk and great buttermilk from ran-lew dairy. I get my flour from Lindley Mills and we get our fresh eggs from the local chicken farmer. We have a simple small inexpensive location but we put all our money into purchasing high-quality raw products that make a great tasting end product. Other than great ooey gooey cinnamon rolls, we also make the best scones around, cookies, muffins, brownies, and other goodies. we make everything from scratch, and by hand.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I started slowly. The rent figure is very low and so it was not a stress builder. Everyone who has tried Willy’s cinnamon roll has loved it. I only used social media to promote Willy’s and word of mouth. So from day one I always paid all the bills with no problems. What has been challenging is my short-term memory. I have to do the same thing over and over and over to remember it along with lots and lots and lots of notes. So it took me 3 years of hard work to get where I can do it all, and do it well.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am only 21 years old. So my only professional experience is baking here at the bakery. My family realized at a young age that I would need an environment created for me that I could thrive in. I did a special work program designed by my brother and the local High School during my high school years. So from making change, to running a register, to following health guidelines, to being approved by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture is my track record.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
People loving my cinnamon rolls, dancing to music, having a great meal, compliments on my pink hat.
