Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Forster. They and their team shared their story with us below:
I started Sarah Lee Studio in my walk-in closet during a furlough in the spring of 2020. Had it not been for the mandatory lockdown from COVID-19, I may have never given my art the time it needed to take off.
Sarah Lee Studio has grown so much since then; you can now find my artwork in 5 retail locations and various art exhibits throughout the year. I also sell my work directly to customers at markets and art shows throughout the Triangle area.
Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I am a self-taught artist working for myself full time; of course, there have been challenges and a very steep learning curve! But I learn as I go, and it has been working out for me so far. One of the biggest things I can struggle with is the roller coaster of my income.
I am a (luxury) product-based business, and mastering consistent sales throughout the year is something I have yet to master. Having the confidence to continue this business through the lulls does not come naturally to me, and I am lucky to have a great support system from my partner and family.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Sarah Lee Studio specializes in exquisite hand-painted pieces that seamlessly blend fine art with functional home décor. I paint unique pieces that emanate beauty and inspire joy.
Nature stands as my everlasting muse, fueling my creative spirit and infusing my work with a vibrant energy. I am perhaps most known for my ocean-inspired pieces, but I also paint mountains, mushrooms, botanicals, abstract pieces, and more.
Aside from a variety of subjects, I also paint a wide variety of substrates. I paint products as small as ring dishes and coasters to large lazy susans, tables, and bar tops. Recently, I got into painting murals- large-scale paintings on interior and exterior walls.
I paint with acrylic pigments and resin. I often paint in multiple layers so there is depth to my work, and I always encourage coming to see my work in person to really be able to appreciate it.
I believe what sets me apart from other resin artists is my attention to detail and my desire to strive for perfect quality.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My Family and partner have been a phenomenal support system for me. They are there to bounce ideas off of and to offer emotional support when I need it. And one of the biggest things they help me with is staffing my markets and art shows.
Selling my work at events takes a ton of work and can be long days. Having a loved one come with me is a huge help! If I ever have a double booking, they have been able to sell my work for me while I’m at a different show.
