Today we’d like to introduce you to Tenisha Walker.
Hi Tenisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Well, real estate was not where I thought I would be if we are completely honest. I started a few years ago to obtain my license and it wasn’t for me at that time & the opportunity arose again so I will say real estate sort of found me. I always loved going to model homes and renovation shows but for a long time, I was searching for what I was passionate about and what would combine my love for helping people. So many opportunities presented themselves and I was excited and thankful for each of them but the feeling of this is what I want to do for 15-20 years was not there.
The abrupt layoff during the pandemic was a turning point for me where I had to re-evaluate what I wanted & I realized that I could combine my love for houses with my love for people which was exciting for me. Going through the process of taking classes and passing the test to obtain my license was rigorous shall we say and doubt set in so many times but put my best foot forward because what else was I going to do? Give up? That was not an option for me I had to see it through. So I set a goal, obtained it & began my journey in real estate at Fathom Realty. My journey in this field is just beginning, I am excited to see where it goes! To believe in something before you can see it will always be the ultimate test of faith.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth is what we hope for but it’s in the bumps that we learn our biggest lessons. No, the road was not smooth. When you first start something new you do not know what to expect.
I had to learn how to be consistent with my marketing, and how to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Also, I had to learn how to go with the flow and not be obsessed with how I felt things could or should go. Letting go of ideals and really organizing and planning the goals I wanted to obtain.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a realtor. I serve Raleigh/Durham and the surrounding area. I am most proud of the quality service that I provide each of my clients & every family I have been able to assist thus far. Every experience is unique and I value that.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Give yourself grace & do not give up.
Being a real estate agent just like anything else has its ups and downs but if you enjoy helping individuals and families as they walk through one of the most important decisions in their life those down moments are so small compared to the smile when they have found the home they love or the joy of the closing day. Real estate is so versatile do not limit yourself. Find a firm that has amazing mentorship and be open to learning.
