Life & Work with Terri Atkinson of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terri Atkinson.

Hi Terri, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started the rescue after the death of Princess Regan Marie. I have been working in dog rescue since 2010. I adopted a little Shih Tzu that saved me. I had become home bound due to panic attacks. Once I adopted Reagan my panic attacks subsided, I was busy taking care of her and forgot my issues she need me. She lived with me for 10 years and I started the rescue in her honor.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It is never a smooth road in rescue. Trying to get all their medical needs and find foster homes for senior pets is so hard. We survive through donations. We have been doing this for 4 years. So many seniors that need help.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are one of the few rescues that deal with senior dogs. We once in a while take in a younger dog who is in need of medical attention. Every dog gets a complete physical and we work closely with the vet to ensure they are as healthy as they can be.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We always need volunteers, foster homes and help at events. We are foster based so every dog goes into a home. The love we receive back from these precious seniors is unbelievable. They come in heartbroken and we get to see them blossom.
