Life & Work with Tia’Lavon Hill of North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia’Lavon Hill.

Hi Tia’Lavon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Looking back, there were always signs that I’d end up in broadcast media, but my journey really started in radio around 2014. I worked as an on-air talent and producer in Raleigh, North Carolina. It was my first job, even remotely close to my college major. I hosted events as well as my own show, all while working behind the scenes on nationally syndicated shows. I learned a lot about myself, the media industry and life in general. That role led to a long winding road of experience as a quality control operator, journalist, and editor for two USA TODAY affiliated newsrooms. I’ve literally done it all. I truly believe that everything I’ve done has prepared me to be the news producer I am today. I’ve told thousands of stories through print, the airwaves, digitally and now through television. Its a full circle moment.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Lets just say life has been no crystal stair. Like many people during the pandemic, I had the rug pulled from under my feet in 2019. I was a new wife and mom, who somehow ended up furloughed after five years in radio. Now my already limited salary was cut even shorter but with new obligations. I had to change course, relocate and take chances. It wasn’t the only time I had to do so. Revamping is something I became far too familiar with in this evolving industry.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am now a producer for Queen City News in Charlotte. Live television news is definitely a different beast. I’m most proud of learning a new craft and making it my own. Its been more than three years now and I feel like my faith along with the skills I’ve learned have unlocked a new path for me.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
If you’re in the Charlotte area make sure you’re tuning in to Queen City News at Noon. Its so important to remain informed now more than ever. Also follow my social media for updates on some new creative projects I’? working on. My next move will be a little outside of what people may be used to seeing from me but I believe challenging yourself is an important part of life.
