Life & Work with Victoria Johnson of WZFX Foxy 99.1

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Johnson. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Victoria “Babydoll” Johnson is an American Radio Personality born and raised in Eastern North Carolina. She grew up listening to legendary heritage Hip Hop Foxy 99 personalities, all while secretly dreaming of one day becoming one of them. Greg Reid said it best in Wealth Made Easy: “A dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dreams come true.”

After high school, Victoria decided it was time to make her dreams come true by enrolling at Carolina School of Broadcasting, in Charlotte North Carolina. After graduation, she went into Traffic reporting and News production in Charlotte and Raleigh, NC. Despite those detours, she made her way to WZFX Foxy 99 the station that planted the seed for her dream.

“Babydoll” is known to be an “around the way girl” amongst foxy listeners. Her ability to colloquially deliver compelling content and information is both funny and entertaining. This has solidified her as a voice that listeners know they can trust. Babydoll delivers solid ratings and connects with listeners not only over the airwaves but also through social media platforms; as well as in their communities where it counts most.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It took a while for me to truly find my unique voice.

I had to get comfortable with all aspects of myself instead of trying to deliver on the expectations of others constantly. In entertainment, a lot of people will try to tell you who you need to be successful while calling it branding. The reality is that you are your brand, all of you. The flaws you find in yourself will inspire others, so embrace them all.

All things are working for your good!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work at an Urban Radio station. I have the number one rated show on the number one radio station in the Fayetteville, NC market, with a 35% market share.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Make sure you know the production side of things. Be able to operate the equipment and software that comes with the job you want. Be a jack of all trades in your industry, since the push covid gave to modernization leaders are looking for “swiss army knives.”

Never underestimate the power of networking. Be kind.
