Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex J..
Hi Alex J., we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Ironically, I never wanted to be an author. I wrote some as a teen and young adult and then forgot about it. When I found an old manuscript in a drawer, I decided to completely rewrite the story and submit it. That became my first published book, CassaStar, which was followed by several more.
I am the founder of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group which began fifteen years ago and has received numerous awards over the years. https://www.insecurewriterssupportgroup.com/ Several of my books became Amazon best-sellers with my last one coming out in 2022. I’m not writing as much these days but still active online with the IWSG and in the blogging world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve been fortunate that most of my journey has been smooth and was blessed with a ton of support from friends and fans when my books were released. I did go through a really long dry spell with no inspiration. I finally overcame it but that meant there was six years between books. I don’t recommend that as once you lose momentum and fan interest, it becomes more difficult to get the next book noticed.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My genre is space opera with a hint of military science fiction. My books are for those who want a fun adventure that doesn’t bog itself down in science fiction/mechanical details but focuses on the characters instead.
I am proud of all my books but a special nod goes to CassaStorm. I threw everything including the kitchen sink at that story and I feel I nailed it.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Time spend in God’s presence, time spent creating, time with my wife, and time with my music. (I am a guitar player in a Christian band.)
