Today we’d like to introduce you to Alice Miles

Alice, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
“Lowcountry owned, sister operated.

What started as a bachelorette hashtag, turned into a coastal lifestyle brand. Salt Wife hats, shirts, and stickers are thoughtfully designed for women who like to surf, fish, boat, and generally enjoy the coast!

Alice, Margaret, and Betsy Houston were born in Augusta, GA and have spent much of their time growing up in Beaufort, SC. The three sisters co-own and operate Salt Wife, and find as many excuses as possible to get together outdoors.”

We operate out of Wilmington and Charleston and sell mostly online and at fishing tournaments, but would love to sell our line out of beach stores, marinas, and boutiques as well!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been harder than we thought to get our name out there! Selling at festivals etc takes a lot of time and manpower, which is hard when we all have families and live in different cities. The goal is to get our line into stores along the eastern coast!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Salt Wife started as the hashtag for my sister’s bachelorette party down in Beaufort, SC. I made her a hat and it turned out that everyone else wanted one too, so we thought that it might be the start of a good idea!
We now sell hats, sweatshirts, tank tops, koozies, water bottles, and stickers. It’s a perfect brand for women who love all things salty! Whether its fishing, boating, surfing, or chilling on the beach!
We are proud that our company is a small, female-owned, family business and that all of our products are made in South Carolina.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
We grew up fishing and crabbing with my parents and grandparents. It was always a good day when you’d end up sunburned, dirty, and salty with a bucket of blue crab and whatever else we could catch!
