Meet Alicia Battle of Battle Mental Health

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Battle.

Hi Alicia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my private counseling practice working as a solo mental health therapist. I wanted to eventually expand but did not have that on my radar until years later. I put emphasis on the years because the growth of my business happened almost instantly.

Today, we are a group counseling practice of five and counting with the mission to help our clients improve their mental and emotional wellness.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey to growing a group practice has not been without growing pains. You hear a lot of stories about the perseverance needed to weather slow months. On the flip side, our challenges have been to keep up with rapid growth from the high demand for our services. Rapid growth can be exciting but also can easily spiral out of control if you are not prepared and grounded in the core values you originally set for your business.

Things I had to consider were choosing my team wisely, staffing needs, and the priority of our client care experience. There were times I had to pause to revisit our purpose. Because of those powerful moments of stillness and continued restructuring, we have overcome and will continue to overcome any obstacles we face.

As you know, we’re big fans of Battle Mental Health PLLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Battle Mental Health PLLC consists of a group of Mental Health Therapists who are passionate about helping our clients understand, heal, and grow. We specialize in assisting our clients in navigating their life’s journey after experiencing loss, past trauma, and interruptions to what life used to be.

We serve all ages and currently offer individual, couples, family, and group therapy. What makes us stand out is our team is relatable with a deep belief in our treatment approach.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory I share often is how my mother made me order food for the first time as a child. I will never forget it because I was so scared to speak up and tell the person at the register what I wanted to order. I was standing so far from the register that people were jumping in front of me in line.

For those who knew me growing up, I was very shy, timid, and quiet. This is something my mother knew about me and often used moments like this to increase assertiveness. I’ve never had to use my assertiveness as much as I do now as a group practice owner. In the past, I hated being pushed out of my comfort zone.

In fact, I would avoid it at all costs. Now being out of my comfort zone is a place I have become well acquainted with. That valuable lesson is something I will always cherish because it initiated the boldness and courage I have today.
