Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Wilson.
Hi Alicia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely! My name is Alicia S. Wilson also known as Lelestyleme. I am Wardrobe Stylist, Social Media|PR Marketing Manager, and Content Creator. I showcase my talents and creative abilities on Instagram as a plus-size fashion influencer. As a fast-growing creative in North Carolina and the plus-size community, I love to embark on new adventures of creative direction that highlight my sense of style and story.
I began in the fashion industry by attending NYFW every season and eventually serving as a styling assistant on multiple sets. This was definitely a gateway into doing so much more and beginning my creative journey. I loved to predict trends and incorporate fast fashion into many of my classic styles with modifications to suit plus-size bodies. Challenging fashion boundaries and faux pas I push wardrobe staples and built my own fashion rules. I knew from a child that I would be doing exactly what I am doing now!
I continued wardrobe styling by posting outfits I loved and body-positive content on Instagram. I was encouraged and supported by such a wonderful community that has grown to be extended family. I also found a community in which I needed support. My fellow Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) sisters were always there for me. Being diagnosed with PCOS at such an early age motivated me to represent women just like me. Being motivated by so many parts of life really pushed me to develop and grow every talent I had.
I would say that I am multi-faceted working as a UI/UX and Graphic Designer as well. I also get to use each set of my skills working for the largest dental practice in North Carolina, Lane & Associates Family Dentistry. I love that I can do what I love in every aspect of my life.
I strive to uplift women on a similar journey who may be working a 9-5 job or pursuing a social media career! You can do both sis!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has definitely not been smooth. I have struggled with finding myself and constantly questioning if I should be doing this. Like a lot of others, I struggle with imposter syndrome. You constantly feel like you don’t deserve to be where you are or you’re incapable. It’s hard letting go of perfectionism but you have to let go.
I definitely struggled with my great-grandmother who meant the world to me! Taking that hurt and channeling it into my art was really difficult and it is still a struggle today. Additionally, it is difficult navigating in the world of fashion, public relations, and social media as a plus size, Black woman. You literally learn as you go!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As I’ve mentioned previously, I wear many hats! I do everything from Content Creation to Social Media Marketing. My hobbies are Ceramics, Traveling, and Shopping. I would say that my proudest moment has yet to come, however, one of my greatest accomplishments has been joining my sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. My most recent accomplishment has been working with over 100 brands.
Fun Facts: I was born and raised in Raeford, North Carolina. I am a country girl at heart. I am engaged to my high school sweetheart. My favorite color is pink.
I would love to connect with fellow creatives, cysters, entrepreneurs, sisters, and sorors. Feel free to follow me on Instagram @lelestyleme and via email at awilsonstyled@gmail.com.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that our city is full of creative people with the same vision! Everyone in Raleigh is so uplifting and supportive. The only thing I would change is opportunity availability. Creatives shouldn’t feel like they need to relocate in order to have a better opportunity. Raleigh should be offering the same opportunities as Charlotte and Atlanta.
I know that we are not in New York or Los Angeles but more opportunities here would be so beneficial to the local creatives.
