Meet Amber Barnes

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Amber Barnes.

Amber Barnes

Hi Amber, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
It started a long time ago when I was going to Nash Central High School.

I was taking classes in theatre and realized how much I enjoyed it & then what started out as a hobby turned into a serious passion of mine. I’m not gonna go into a lot of details because I’ve done several interviews & those who know me know how much acting means to me, but I’m not only an actress; I am also a runway fashion model, brand ambassador, content creator, assistant director, a host and so much more!

I’m out here getting it like everyone else. S/O to my family for believing in me. My beautiful daughter, Autumn A Bell, keeps me grounded and pushing forward. I want her to be inspired and to know that nothing is impossible if you believe. She’s my everything. Anyways, moving forward… S/O to the amazing directors I’ve had the opportunity to work with! Ya’ll are the REAL MVP.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t. I have been through people who judge, gossip, unprofessional people who don’t know how to do their job and also not getting paid for what I’m worth. In this industry, you have to have tough skin because people will take advantage of you if you let them.

Also, try to stay away from toxic people or relationships that will drain tf out of you, especially if you’re this good, genuine person. At this point, a relationship would only be a distraction to me unless that person can meet me halfway. Until then, I don’t have the time or anyone unless it makes me paper.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I work in the medical field back at home. I don’t talk about my main job that I do much. Only the things people see on the surface. I’ve been in the medical field for 6 years, I think! S/O to all my healthcare providers and workers because this job is not easy!

When I got my degree, I decided to go into the medical field, but it was not something that made me completely happy. I, however, did establish great relationships with the people & patients that I came across. People who remain with me to this day are my good friends (Shyla Middleton, Monica Patrice, & my boo Tiffany Hardy). I met them throughout my road to success.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice is to be honest with yourself. Don’t try to follow the status quo, and don’t let anybody make you feel less than who you are because, truth be told, the ones who will try to pull you down are people who are jealous of your light and what you are capable of being. Go to those networking events in major cities!

Also, remain humble because you never know what God has in store for you. That always worked for me. If you need help or guidance, get a therapist or talk to your friends or family. My best friends & my Mom are my therapists. My beautiful mother, Lisa Barnes, tells it to you like it is whether you like it or not! Melissa Rattray, Shanetta Alston, Jessica Lynch, Roshay Anthony, Camille & my Aunty Lea Spruill from Killeen, Texas. I swear they have been holding me down from the jump. I would do anything for them because they proved how REAL they are. I love them dearly.

Also, S/O to my acting friends too! There are so many, and I can’t name them, but they know who they are!! Jermaine Sledge, Clifton Pearsall, and many more. Keep going because our time is coming! GV LilShooty (rapper), I see you, friend! Keep going!! They ain’t ready for you! To all my shining stars, keep going because we are almost there!!
