Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber John.
Hi Amber, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I went to massage school when I was 36. I had always been the stay-at-home mom, or secondary job while my then-husband worked on his career. A friend of mine told me I should go to massage school. I told her she was crazy. I eventually decided to check it out and fell in love with everything massage from the very first day of orientation.
I knew I was where I was supposed to be. After school, I worked for a couple of spas, the NC State football team, and had a few personal clients. I always said I would have my own massage business but didn’t do much to make my dream a reality. When Covid hit in 2020, I was also going through some difficult things in my personal life. By the end of summer, that year things were turning around for me, and I was happy and had a positive outlook on life again.
It would take another year before I actually decided to take the leap and get keys to my own office. I was finally a business owner! I love what I do. I love taking new classes and learning new aspects of massage so that I can help all of my clients to feel their best.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life always has its ups and downs. The massage itself has always been easy. Finding self-confidence was my obstacle. I’m 41 now and feel like life really began at 40. I’m older, wiser, happier, and really just love myself more than I ever have.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As someone who has suffered from anxiety and depression, I feel like I am really in tune with clients that may be suffering from these things. I allow clients space to just be and breathe for a little while.
My goal is to let everyone shut their brain off for the duration of the session while receiving excellent bodywork.
What does success mean to you?
Success to me is seeing a smile and carefree look on a client’s face that I’m certain hasn’t been there in quite some time. I know I did my job.
