Meet Anjelica Lusco of Leo’s Juice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anjelica Lusco.

Hi Anjelica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story began years ago when my parents first introduced me to backyard farming. From this, I’ve began my interest and self-paced research into learning more about where our foods come from, how to properly store them, and what can be done to store and preserve them. Shortly after the birth of my now four-year-old son Leonidas, I begun to seek ways to make his baby foods from home. By the time Leonidas turned age 1, also the beginning of the pandemic, we were all stuck inside with not much of anything to do, which is when I begun to seek learning a healthy skill to help with my families nutrition and well-being. This is where I begin to Juice fresh produce & herbs for my friends and family. After receiving a large demand from friends that we’re obsessed with the vibrant juices that I mixed up, I begun to take it serious and researched what it would take to begin my own business.

Years later, after several pop-ups around town at farmers markets, festivals, local fitness studios. Upon graduating from two business cohorts presented by Change Today, Change Tomorrow a local non-profit profit, and the AMPED RTBI program, we’ve gracefully grown into the successful elevating brand of Leo’s Juice Co. In stages of growth, we’re now seeking to grow our brand and community with the asset of land to build our own urban farm & kitchen. Leo’s Urban Farms, LLC, where we have plans to grow our own ingredients as well as teach others how to do the same.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the struggles we’ve endured have been of course navigating during the Covid 19 pandemic with most businesses being closed or having to downgrade just to stay afloat. Then there’s inflation & food shortages that hit everyone. We’ve have endured a mix of it all; we have just had to pivot and learn as we go to continue being able to bring our products and services to the community.

As you know, we’re big fans of Leo’s Juice Co. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Leo’s Juice Co. is an upcoming fresh cold pressed Juice, lifestyle & wellness brand. We specialize in fresh natural products. We cater to areas that are food insecure to bring a high-quality fresh product in areas in town that are usually neglected. I’m most proud of our teams effort; we really have grown as a whole while navigating and paving our own pathway. We offer wellness services such as yoga and fitness training, with plans to grow into having our own home one day.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like most about our city, “the ville” is the culture & network. A lot of us all know each other and have grown up together, so seeing some of my friends grow into having their own families & business is awesome. If I had to say one thing I like least about Louisville would be, like most larger cities, the crime & violence.
