Hi Anthony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I lived in a small town nestled within the heart of America (Sumter, S.C); I harbored an unyielding dream of becoming a lawyer from a young age. As a child, I possessed a profound sense of justice and an unwavering passion for helping others navigate the intricate corridors of the legal system. 

When I reached my senior year in high school, I made a pivotal decision that would shape my journey. I joined the military, eager to test my mettle, serve my country, and gain invaluable life experiences. The military instilled in me a sense of discipline, perseverance, and an unshakable belief that no obstacle was insurmountable. 

After completing my military service, I found myself drawn to the fields of corrections and law enforcement, where I could continue to protect and serve my community. Though my path diverged from my childhood dream, I never lost sight of my ultimate goal: to become a lawyer. 

Years passed, and at the age of 34, an undeniable yearning stirred within my heart. It was time to pursue my lifelong aspiration. With unwavering determination and an insatiable thirst for knowledge, I embarked on the arduous task of preparing for law school. I immersed myself in books, legal research, and the intricacies of the law, honing my mind for the challenges that lay ahead. 

The world around me whispered doubts and skepticism, but I remained resolute. I embraced the philosophy that had guided me thus far: “If the mind can conceive it, the body can achieve it.” Failure was not an option; I refused to accept any outcome other than the one I had set out for myself. 

Then, a moment that felt like destiny itself unfolded before me. I received the exhilarating news that I had been accepted into the Florida A&M College of Law. It was a monumental step forward, a culmination of years of unwavering dedication and unyielding belief. With a heart brimming with gratitude and determination, I embarked on my law school journey. 

Law school proved to be a demanding endeavor, pushing the boundaries of my capabilities. Days turned into nights, and nights blurred into days as I delved into case studies, engaged in debates, and absorbed the wisdom of esteemed professors. I faced countless sleepless nights and formidable challenges, but my resolute spirit never wavered. 

Finally, in 2009, after years of relentless pursuit, I stood among my peers, adorned in the regalia of graduation. I had overcome every hurdle, surpassed every expectation, and emerged as a testament to the power of resilience and unwavering faith. With my law degree in hand, I was ready to step into the world and champion justice with unwavering resolve. 

My journey had not been conventional, but it had been uniquely mine. The military had fortified my character, while my experiences in corrections and law enforcement had provided me with invaluable insight into the intricacies of the legal system. My journey exemplifies the profound truth that life’s detours can lead to unexpected triumphs. 

Armed with a deep understanding of the law, an unrelenting commitment to justice, and the philosophy that had guided me throughout, I embarked on a legal career that would leave an indelible mark on society. I dedicated myself to advocating for the voiceless, fighting for the oppressed, and ensuring that the law served as a beacon of hope for all.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, the road to fulfilling my dream of becoming a lawyer was far from smooth. It was marked by numerous struggles and challenges that tested my resilience and determination. 

One of the significant obstacles I encountered was the transition from the military to civilian life. Adjusting to a different environment and finding my place in the civilian workforce was a daunting task. It took time to acclimate to the new dynamics and expectations outside of the structured military life. 

Additionally, pursuing a legal career later in life came with its own set of challenges. Being older than many of my peers in law school meant that I had to balance my studies with other responsibilities. I had to manage my time efficiently to meet the demands of coursework while also juggling work and personal commitments. 

Financial hurdles were another aspect that posed a significant challenge. Law school is an expensive endeavor, and finding the means to finance my education was a constant worry. I had to explore scholarships, grants, and part-time jobs to alleviate the financial burden and ensure that I could pursue my education without compromising my dream. 

The rigorous nature of law school itself presented its share of difficulties. The workload was demanding, and the pressure to excel was ever-present. There were times when I felt overwhelmed and doubted my capabilities. However, I remained steadfast in my belief that perseverance and hard work would lead me to success. 

Additionally, the competitive nature of the legal field added another layer of complexity. Securing internships, clerkships, and job opportunities required relentless networking and showcasing my skills and knowledge. It was a constant hustle to establish myself in the legal community and carve out a path for my future career. 

Despite these struggles, I never allowed myself to succumb to self-doubt or give up on my dream. Each hurdle I faced served as a reminder of my determination and fuel for my perseverance. I sought support from mentors, friends, and family who believed in me and encouraged me to keep pushing forward. 

In retrospect, it was the combination of these struggles and challenges that shaped me into the tenacious and resilient individual I am today. They taught me the value of perseverance, adaptability, and the importance of maintaining unwavering faith in the face of adversity. 

Ultimately, overcoming these obstacles and staying true to my passion for law propelled me forward. While the road was challenging, it was these very struggles that made my achievement all the more fulfilling and reinforced my belief in the philosophy that guided me throughout: “If the mind can conceive it, the body can achieve it.”
