Meet Antoinette Wells of J’allure Beauty Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antoinette Wells. 

Hi Antoinette, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Williamsburg, VA and the oldest of nine children, taught me leadership at an early age. I went on to attend college at Shaw University an HBCU (Historically Black College or University) in Raleigh North Carolina where obtain my bachelor’s in criminal justice, and then went on to obtain a Masters’s from North Carolina Central University in Durham North Carolina. With all of my degrees and accomplishments, I still knew that I wanted to do more. 

I have always wanted to start my own business but I just never knew what exactly. I started to do some research. One thing that I knew Is that I love the beauty industry and especially beauty products. That’s when I began to make homemade soaps. I started off making soaps for my family and friends and then turn my passion into my business. 

I went to my first pop-up event in Charlotte North Carolina and a lot of people were asking me about skincare. Yes, I did my research on my soap products and the benefits of my ingredients. However, I felt I just needed to learn more than just doing research. That’s when I enrolled in school at Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill, NC to become and Esthetician. While studying in school I found my passion for not only just skincare and my soaping business but also my interest in waxing! 

Thus creating J’allure Beauty Esthetics in Raleigh, NC where I have my own suite doing what I love! 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road to success has not been smooth, through the eyes of everyone it may look easy. When you are truly passionate about something and want to be successful nothing comes easy. 

One hurdle that I did face was Covid like most of the world. I ended up completing school during Covid. This made me nervous because I wanted to start my business right away. So then again, I had to figure out what would be my next move or what I was going to do. Trying to make the best of the situation in this unforeseen time. I took the negative as a positive and then started to work at a waxing corporation. While working there it taught me the speed of waxing and different waxing techniques. It also taught me Marketing, sales techniques, working with different clientele, as well as handling difficult situations. Who would have known that this hurdle would be a blessing in disguise? 

I don’t believe anything in life is as smooth as the vision or the ideas that we make it out to be. However, I do believe that this road is my passion and my journey, so smooth would be an understatement because if it was smooth everybody would be doing it. This journey has had some ups and downs through everything I have maintained resiliency and stayed focus on my goals and my passion.

J’allure Beauty Esthetics LLC is a place where everyone can feel confident and beautiful. Where we specialize in full body waxing and are known for our 15 min Brazilians. What sets me apart from the rest is my personality as well as the quality of my work. I want to give people the type of service that I would also like to receive. Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The best advice I would give other people is to just to go for it. Don’t seek validation from other people when you already have the plan and the vision that they can’t see. Do your research and connect like-minded people either a mentor or business coach. I will also tell others that it’s not going to be easy starting out and you’re not just going to magically wake up the next day being the person that you’re dreaming of but with persistence and consistency you will get to that level or exceed your expectations. Just keep going and never give up.
