Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Murchison.
Hi Ariel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started photography as a hobby when I was in college at UNC-Charlotte. As I saw more photography, I just kept falling in love with creating memories that pause. Throughout my time at UNCC, I had amazing mentors that helped to guide me and my creative eye, to what it is today.
After college, I did work traditional jobs for years, until I was ready to turn my hobby into a business. After I made the flip to entrepreneur, I saw great strides in my business. Even after that, I still wasn’t ready to be a full-time photographer. I was still very nervous about all the what-ifs. It wasn’t until I got laid off from a company, that I changed my status from a part-time to full-time photographer.
After that, I decided that the “safe route” I took was not it for me currently. It was time for me to take a risk! It was the perfect time to live out my dream of being a full-time photographer. I had prepared for this moment, and it finally came. Not the way I expected, but it was here, and I had to make a decision.
It has been a lot of work, and I am sure it will continue to be, but I have loved the journey! Now, I am a full-time photographer! I am still growing my business, and can’t wait to see what my business grows into over the next couple of years! Overall, it has been amazing to have a leap of faith and start living out my dream!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been completely smooth, but no one said it would be easy.
I have grown a lot, with growing a business. The back end of a business will teach many lessons, and show you how disciplined and dedicated to your goals.
I don’t think I can pinpoint one exact struggle, because learning how to be successful in an ever-changing world is a constant battle to stay ahead of.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a photographer, that loves to work with clients for different types of portraits! I do headshots, family, branding, and special celebrations portraits.
I am most proud of the connections, I make with my clients. I have had consistent clients for years now, and they grew from clients to friends. I love connections, and being able to make more meaningful connections through my business is a blessing.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to make my clients feel comfortable in front of the camera. Most of the clients, don’t get in front of a camera, on a consistent basis. So being able to help them through something that is out of their comfort zone, and have a great product is what sets me apart.
Everyone isn’t always able to coach someone through a session so that the client feels comfortable.
What are your plans for the future?
I look forward to growing into more of a specialty of photography in the next couple of years. Right now, I still have a lot of planning to do, so I will say, there are not any current big changes happening.
