Meet Aubrey Weber of Kernersville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Weber.

Hi Aubrey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey to founding Power Paws Dog Training truly began with how my mind is uniquely wired. Being on the autism spectrum isn’t just a personal detail; it’s the analytical foundation of everything we do. My brain naturally seeks patterns, data, and precise, objective results, which is a powerful advantage when decoding complex animal behavior. My formal background is in Specialized Education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), with a deep focus on clear communication, including my work in Deaf Education. I was already an expert in breaking down challenging behaviors and finding effective ways to connect with individuals who have unique learning styles.

When I translated that knowledge to the world of dogs, I saw an opportunity for a more accurate and data-driven approach in dog training. I often saw practices that relied on tradition or harsh, aversive methods, and I knew we could do better by using the most ethical and effective science available. That’s when the Power Paws philosophy was born: we don’t just teach obedience; we address the root cause and the emotional response behind a behavior. Our commitment to being Fear Free and LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) is a direct extension of using ethical, evidence-based practices.

Precision is our superpower. We’re meticulous—constantly analyzing the data from every dog’s progress and refining our methods. That dedication to detail ensures that every training program is truly individualized and tailored to the dog’s specific needs, not a one-size-fits-all solution. Today, we’ve grown into a respected, grassroots company offering a full spectrum of services, from In-Home Behavior Consulting to flexible Online Private Training. We also demonstrate our commitment to the community through our Pro Bone-O Scholarship Program, which provides tailored training to dogs in shelters and rescues to dramatically increase their chances of finding a forever home. Ultimately, the goal is always the same: to use our unique expertise to help dogs and humans work together and thrive, allowing every dog to reach their full potential without having to compromise who they are.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One major challenge, particularly in the dog training world, is the constant need for education and advocacy. We are absolutely committed to a data-driven, augmented training model—we prioritize getting measurable, accurate results. Our approach is rooted in precision and based on science. Unfortunately, we constantly encounter owners who have been given outdated or ineffective advice from others in the field. A big part of our job is often un-training bad habits and re-building trust—not just between the owner and the dog, but also in the training process itself. It takes extra patience and clear communication to shift those established mindsets toward our evidence-based, results-focused methods.

Another struggle is simply the nature of behavior consulting itself. We often work with dogs in crisis—those dealing with severe aggression, reactivity, or separation anxiety. These cases require intense, meticulous analysis and a high degree of emotional and intellectual commitment. It’s demanding work, but it’s precisely where our specialized approach—my focus on Applied Behavior Analysis and data-driven precision—truly shines and delivers results that other, less rigorous methods often can’t.

Finally, like any grassroots business, there’s the ongoing challenge of making our high-quality, professional services as affordable and accessible as possible. That’s why we focus on flexible options like online coaching and, critically, why we founded the Pro Bone-O Training Scholarship Program. It’s our way of overcoming that financial hurdle for dogs most in need, ensuring our philosophy of highly effective training benefits the shelter and rescue community, too.

So, while the path has required hard work and persistent advocacy, every success story—every family we help find peace, every dog who thrives because of our augmented training—tells me that the struggle is absolutely worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a grassroots provider of dog training, behavior consulting, and canine fitness services. Essentially, we’re here to help dogs and their owners thrive together by building a stronger, more fulfilling relationship. My specialty and what I’m truly known for is resolving complex behavior challenges. This goes far beyond basic obedience. We excel in behavior consulting for issues like aggression and reactivity, separation anxiety, and deep-seated fear and anxiety. We approach these problems with a focus that addresses the root cause and the emotional response within the context where the issues occur, not just the surface-level symptoms. We are equipped to handle any training or behavior problem you might be experiencing—from puppy manners to advanced behavior modification.

What truly distinguishes Power Paws is our unique perspective and our deep commitment to data-driven results, precision, and unwavering accuracy. This is rooted in my background in Applied Behavior Analysis and my analytical mind. We practice what we call augmented training, which means we go beyond typical methods by constantly analyzing data to refine our approach. This allows us to individualize every training program on a foundational level, ensuring it is perfectly tailored to your dog’s specific needs. Every client receives expert guidance from a certified professional and behavior specialist, a truly customized training plan, and lifetime access to virtual support and exclusive online resources. We work hard to make our high-quality services affordable and flexible, offering everything from In-Home Private Training and Day Training to effective Online Private Training for clients worldwide.

Without a doubt, I am most proud of our Pro Bone-O Training Scholarship Program. Every dog deserves a chance at a happy life, and a well-trained dog has a much better chance of finding and keeping a loving home. This program offers tailored training to dogs in critical need—those in shelters, rescues, and foster homes—made possible through our direct contribution and generous community sponsors. Our goal is to address their behavioral issues, build confidence, and prepare them for a successful transition into a permanent home, increasing their adoptability. Seeing a struggling dog find peace and a forever family because of the skills we gave them—that is the most fulfilling part of this work.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
That’s a fun question, and a great way to talk about the community we serve! Being located in Kernersville, often called the “Heart of the Triad,” gives us a truly unique perspective.

What I love best about Kernersville is its small-town charm combined with incredible location. We truly get the best of both worlds here. You have a genuine, friendly community feel—people are supportive, they show up for local events like the Spring Folly, and they really rally around local businesses and organizations. But simultaneously, we’re located right at the center of the Triad, which means we are just a quick, 15-to-20-minute drive to all the big-city amenities, major employers, and cultural hubs of Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point. This central location, along with our beautiful local spots like Körner’s Folly and the Ciener Botanical Garden, creates a wonderful quality of life where you can have space, community, and still be connected to the region.

If I had to pick something I like least—and this is a common sentiment in any fast-growing area—it would be the growing pains related to traffic and infrastructure. Kernersville has boomed, and while the growth is exciting, it has put a strain on the roads, especially around the major commercial areas and the I-40 corridor. The commute, while short geographically, can sometimes be frustrating during peak hours. Additionally, while our downtown is charming, some residents feel we could still use a bit more in the way of diverse, late-night dining and arts-and-culture options to truly round out the local entertainment scene, though we’ve seen great strides in that area recently with new spots opening up. Overall, though, the strengths of our community and location far outweigh those growing pains.
