Meet Beth Johnson of Our Coffee Shop LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Johnson

Hi Beth, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When most people are thinking about retirement, Tim & I got an invitation to open a coffee shop. It had been a dream in a previous season of life but did not happen. It was a bit of a surprise to have this opportunity come our way when it did, but, we said ‘YES” to birthing Our Coffee Shop. Our character was being shaped as the shop was being built. What was to be a 2-3 month project ended up being a 9+ month project 🙂 Today, you will find us daily in the shop wanting to bring people a GREAT experience over delicious coffee…we see it as serving up cups of courage, comfort, or JOY…depending on the need of the person for that day. The motto on our wall declares “We love to make coffee for the city that loves to drink it.”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been as smooth as the skin of a pineapple…ha, ha. Seriously, we were told this will be so ‘easy’ but we found opposition during the build out process, many things built wrong, installed backward, mistakes of equipment ordered, opposition from the public since our next door neighbors happen to be a church, etc.
I’m told this is not uncommon but it still was a painful ‘birth process.’ BUT we would say it is WORTH IT!!
We have the BEST staff, the most wonderful customers, many whom we know by name, and know their stories.

We’ve been impressed with Our Coffee Shop LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our Coffee Shop is a warm, inviting space where everyone is welcome. We have chosen a local roaster, Magic Beans from Pfafftown (they air roast their coffee!) for our drip coffee and cold brews. We even have DECAF cold brew available for our friends who have a caffeine limit 🙂 Fortuna in Greensboro is our roaster for espresso beans.
We are proud of our delicious clean label sauces for coffee (no artificial ingredients or dyes), and our syrups are from France…so delicious! If you like Chai, you will love our Chai and Dirty Chai!!
We also offer Lotus Energy which is a clean label energy containing 7 plant based energy sources that we mix up with sparkling water per order with the flavor the customer chooses. We also have crushed fruit smoothies, Frappes, and sparkling lemonades. If you are craving a little something sweet you will find cookies, muffins, and/or scones, on offer, and they are made in house daily.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe coffee will continue to grow in popularity and presence in the everyday lives of our community. With all the options to individualize your coffee preference it will be an opportunity to GROW and serve more and more of our community.
