Meet Bobby McNeil Jr. of North Raleigh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby McNeil Jr..

Hi Bobby , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got my start as a standout basketball player at Fuquay-Varina High School, where the game taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to lead under pressure. Those lessons carried me to Barton College on a full athletic & academic scholarship, where I was blessed to be part of the 2007 team that made history by winning the NCAA Division II National Championship as underdogs. That experience showed me the power of resilience and believing in something bigger than yourself; values that still guide me today.

After graduating with honors as a student-athlete, I transitioned into the professional world, beginning my career in recruiting back in 2009. Over time, I grew into a nationally recognized, award-winning Talent Acquisition Leader, author, and community leader with more than a decade of experience designing inclusive hiring strategies and creating career opportunities.

Along the way, I’ve led at the intersection of professional excellence and cultural empowerment. I served as President of the award-winning Blacks In Technology Raleigh-Durham Chapter, where under my leadership the chapter earned global recognition with the 2023 IMPACT Award, followed by the 2024 Chapter of the Year Award. Today, I continue that work as Vice President of Development for the National Black MBA Association’s Raleigh-Durham Triad Chapter, helping to build pipelines for leadership, career advancement, and economic growth across North Carolina. In that role, I was honored with the National Black MBA Association’s Board Impact Award in recognition of exceptional leadership and dedication in the local chapter.

In 2025, I released my debut book, Cracking the Code, a candid career guide blending personal stories, insights, and actionable strategies. Nicknamed The Career Book for the Culture, it empowers job seekers to navigate today’s competitive job market with confidence and clarity. That same year, I had the honor of delivering my TEDx talk, Not Breaking In, But Becoming, challenging the language we use around career access and inspiring audiences to own their journey with purpose.

My thought leadership has been featured on national platforms, podcasts, and outlets including CNBC. Recently, I was named one of LinkedIn’s Power 50 Top Black Creators and serve on the Board of Advisors for the North Carolina Technology Association. Whether I’m in boardrooms or community spaces, my focus remains the same: to lead with authenticity, share what I’ve learned, and create lasting impact for others coming behind me.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. A lot of what I’ve accomplished, I was the first to do from where I came from – so there was no blueprint, no playbook, no clear example to follow. That meant facing challenges, making missteps, and learning lessons along the way.

Coming from a small town, I know what it feels like to be overlooked, misunderstood, or put in a box with limits on what people thought I could achieve. Too often, the focus was on what I lacked instead of what I could bring to the table. But what I didn’t have in a blueprint, I made up for in belief. My faith in God kept me whole, the support of my family kept me grounded, and my commitment to my purpose kept me focused when the road got rough.

So, when I look back now, I don’t take a single milestone or achievement for granted. Every step was earned, and I carry a deep sense of gratitude for the journey that shaped me into the man I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an award-winning Talent Acquisition Manager with over a decade of experience designing and executing hiring strategies across industries like technology, engineering, R&D, and finance. Over the years, I’ve built a reputation as a trusted voice in recruitment, career coaching, and talent development; someone who knows how to connect top talent with meaningful opportunities, whether in technical or non-technical roles.

What I’m most proud of is not just finding success in one lane but sustaining it across multiple industries for more than a decade. That consistency has elevated my work and expanded my influence far beyond corporate recruiting. My impact has stretched across industries, communities, and even generations and at every stage, I’ve tried to make sure it’s intentional, authentic, and transformative.

I think what sets me apart is how I lead. I bring clarity and compassion, and I use my platform to speak truth to power while also creating space for others to grow. I’ve always had a gift for connecting people, ideas, and communities in ways that spark momentum. More than anything, I want people who cross my path to feel seen, valued, and capable of more than they imagined.

In a time where authenticity can be rare and leadership can sometimes feel performative, I remain grounded. At the end of the day, my character speaks louder than my credentials.

What makes you happy?
At this point in my life, it’s really the little things that make me happy. Simple gestures, kind words, safe spaces, and thoughtful acts mean the most. I’ve come to appreciate the quiet moments where nothing feels forced – just genuine connection and presence.

I find joy not only in seeing how my work and actions impact me in a positive way, but also in watching how they ripple out and impact others. That balance between personal fulfillment and knowing I’ve made a difference for someone else is what truly brings me happiness.
