Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Richardson.
Hi Brenda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story is about never giving up on your dreams at any point within your life. For me, I always had a dream to be a model in high school, but I had friends tell me that I couldn’t do it. They told me that I needed to be taller, that I wasn’t attractive enough, and I listened to them and did not pursue my passion. Much later on in life, I was approached by an agent to come and audition for a modeling gig; I went and was selected. Since then things have been happening in my life. I have been in five movies. I am a published model in four magazines. I have walked the runway over six times. My last one was during New York Fashion Week. So, my dream is coming true in front of my eyes. I often talk to elementary, middle, and high school students about staying focused and never giving up on their dreams no matter what’s going on in their life. The world is their’s to take.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been easy. As a model or an actress, sometimes you are told no, but I never give up. I was told no once by this company after auditioning, but when they offered another audition, I went again, and I made it. So, my journey has taught me to never give up, to never let anyone stop me.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a model. I used to work in the school system as a teacher assistant and still do it part-time as a volunteer, working with children at camps as well, but I’m a full-time model. I just launched my very own fragrance, which is doing well. I believe what sets me apart from others is my striving to do better to help others give back to the community and my hometown.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes, I have. Because when I couldn’t go out, I learned that you could create ways to get the job done. While we were seemingly trapped inside, I auditioned online, walked the runway in the hallway of my home, and created my own content. Technology was a tremendous tool and created ways to make things happen. For example, being able to talk to my students online and on Zoom despite not being able to see them in person was rewarding. With the right spirit you can have adventures in your life that you never dreamed of.
