Hi Brian and Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Triangle Party People is an event rental company launched in November 2023. We are a husband and wife partnership, where both of us came from the medical device industry, working in diagnostic laboratories that focused on diagnosing cancer patients as they go through clinical trials for new drugs. Brian is a quality manager, and Sarah was a project manager/proposal writer. We wanted to find a way to use our skills so that Sarah could focus on being a stay-at-home mom after having our third baby. We got into event rentals because of how starkly different this industry makes us feel- fun and celebratory, compared to the very serious business of cancer research. Our focus on quality and customer service were perfect for the event rental business! We started small, by financing half a dozen round and rectangular tables, plus enough white resin folding chairs to go with them, on a personal credit card. We would use our family minivan for smaller delivery orders and rent cargo vans for larger orders. All of this was being conducted with a permit from our residential garage. Each month, as our revenue grew, we would slowly add more to our inventory. So far, within our first 8 months, we have doubled our table and chair inventory, and expanded into cocktail tables and chivari chairs. Next year, we plan on purchasing our own box truck, and possibly moving into a retail location!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Two of our biggest challenges when getting started were marketing and not having enough inventory to meet demand. First, we didn’t have a marketing budget during the first few months, so we had to spend a lot of time on organic marketing through social media. We joined every local facebook group we could find and would maintain a regular posting schedule with marketing content. We were constantly posting on our instagram, yelp, facebook, and even started a pinterest blog! Most of our initial customers came from facebook marketplace. Then, as revenue slowly started coming in, we made the big decision to start spending on ads through various platforms to see which would perform the best. Once we made that choice, customers were flying in and we would make double our revenue goals each month!
Second, once we started getting the customer attention we wanted, it was very difficult to book every customer requesting a quote, because we only had enough inventory to supply a few small events each weekend. For a few months, we were sub-renting from another local event rental company for orders larger than we could handle (with their permission, of course!) Even worse, we were also turning customers away and referring them to our competitors! Over those few months, we focused on re-investing our profits into buying more inventory so that we wouldn’t have to borrow equipment anymore. Now that we are past those initial hurdles, we no longer have to spend so much time on social media for marketing and we very rarely have to turn customers away to meet demand.

Triangle Party People is an event rental business located in Rolesville, NC, specializing in renting tables, chairs, and tablecloths. We don’t require purchase minimums for delivery or pickup, and we have a flat rate delivery fee of $100 for the first 10 miles. All of our prices, policies, and fees are listed on our website, so that our customers will have a clear idea of how much their order will cost before even requesting a quote! Customer pickup is always free, and only 50% is required to secure a reservation. At Triangle Party People, we value transparency, quality, safety, and customer service!
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Every single month we get consistent feedback and google reviews from our customers that they value our customer service skills. They appreciate the way we communicate, such as email updates with appointment confirmations and clear delivery instructions, or our text notifications when we’re out on delivery. We’ve been told that we do a great job of managing customer expectations, providing an easy booking process, and even handling refund situations. We strive to be transparent about our prices and policies, flexible with our rental terms, and professional at all times, all while remaining upbeat, because at the end of the day, we are happy and extremely honored to be included in our customers’ biggest celebrations!
