Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Spann.
Hi Brian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am from a small town called Franklinton, NC aka Funkytown; and I was raised in the mortuary business. My mom passed away when I was three years old, so I was mostly raised by my grandmother, Sadie Cutchins, and my uncle, Joe Cutchins. When I was in elementary age, my uncle and I would take trips; and at times he would park near a farm field, pond, or some nice scenery and have me pose for him to take photos. He did this for so many years that I became photogenic and had a love for photography and modeling.
After modeling for almost 20 years, later in life, I started taking photos of others with my cell phone, and even finding sceneries and taking photos of myself using a timer. In February 2020 my fiancé, now wife, former WNBA legend, Sylvia Crawley Spann, had been investing in her fashion design business, so knowing that I loved photography we bought a camera and she made me her photographer.
While photographing my wife’s products, doors opened for me to later photograph at the Las Vegas Aces WNBA basketball game, UNC Women’s televised basketball game, Elon College Women’s basketball game, private jet strips, Perkins Orchard, Mark Jacobson Toyota, animals farms, musical events, and more.
I now market and advertise as a photographer for Triangle Corporate Coach, one of the leading transportation companies in NC, Networking has been one of the greatest assets to my success and I look forward to advancing in photography and building relationships through photography. The name Spann Man Media was birthed from my being known as a big Batman and superhero fan, along with one of my nicknames being Spann Man.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, but it has been an interesting road. I started during the infancy of COVID, so there were many challenges, but having a supportive wife and networking relationships opened great doors.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full time photographer and I recently entered into the field of real estate photography offering virtual tours. I believe that my customer service and networking background set me apart from others, though I learn so much from other photographers. I treat people like the fearfully and wonderfully GOD created people that they are; and I want them to feel valued and have fun when we work together. Today’s world is so money driven that the genuine home raising treatment of people is not always seen, so I try to give people that treatment with great respect. I want my photography to empower and reflect both the beauty and authenticity of my clients.
What does success mean to you?
Success is learning and producing greatness in hopes to inspire others to learn from me.
