Today we’d like to introduce you to Britany Haney-Jones.
Hi Britany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since I was a child I’ve always felt deeply connected to the birthing world, most importantly birthing women. I grew up watching A Baby Story on TLC along with witnessing various family members & close friends give birth. What became increasingly unsettling to me was watching the trajectory of cesarean birth skyrocket. Along with the shocking increase in caesarean birth, often times there was no true medical emergency that constituted the need for the procedure. Although there are many exceptions, unknown variables and anomalies, women were created to have natural physiological births.
I myself have had two vastly different birthing experiences that have been my greatest learning lessons throughout my journey. My first pregnancy in 2010, I was a young college sophmore. I experienced intimidating and hostile treatment from my OBGYN care team. I lacked the knowledge to understand that I was experiencing obstetric abuse. I also did not have the courage to navigate those hostile environments. I naively thought this treatment was the standard. The doctors/nurses are in a position(s) of power and authority, so of course they knew what was best. By the time I was 28 weeks pregnant I developed preeclampsia and underwent an emergency caesarean. I remember being in emergency triage again enduring obstetric abuse; harsh tones from the nurses, the yanking and pulling of the uterine catheter and various IV’s. I was being verbally accosted to a degree and forced to sign documentation without allowing me time to review it and ask questions. I had no one there to protect me or advocate for me. I was traumatized by the entire experience. The silver lining was that this pregnancy/birthing experience was also a turning point for my life. I dedicated myself to furthering my education on pregnancy, birth, postpartum, holistic wellness practices, obstetric practices and patient/provider laws.
Fast forward to a decade later, during the height of the 2020 pandemic I was pregnant with my second child. I was able to navigate through the obstetric environment with knowledge, confidence, and support. I knew and understood how the process should be for me and all birthing women. Coupling my previous experience with the birth of my first child and the knowledge that I’d gained regarding birth, it was paramount that I did everything to ensure that I had the ideal birthing experience. This inspired me to hire a doula of my own. The experience of having the advocacy, support, and genuine love from my doula was and continues to be life changing. With my doula as an integral part of my support team, I was able to achieve the birth of my dreams. I had the most beautiful & natural birthing experience all while in the hospital setting. This experience inspired me in countless ways. I knew and felt it had always been my calling. I immediately decided to pivot and become a certified holistic doula!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, embarking on a new journey was quite scary. My entire world as I’d known it for so long suddenly shifted. It was also challenging to leave the stability of my corporate position and guaranteed 6-figure income. I had no idea of knowing where the new path of pursuing my passion and dreams would lead me. I felt as though I was relinquishing a part of my independence that I worked many years to attain. The Capricorn in me was literally —-SCREAMING! It did take a while to fully surrender and bury the fear of failure and the “what if”….?! Once I surrendered and completely put my faith in God, myself and my abilities I quickly understood that I possessed the power to do anything.
So here we are a few years later, faith, hard-work, dedication and time have brought things full circle for me! I’m living my dream of supporting women bring life earth-side.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was the birth of my baby brother. I was 9 years old when he was born and fell in love with him the minute I laid eyes on him. He is my best friend, we share so many of the same interests and are alike in many ways. People often say that we are twins.
