Meet Cameron Malone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Malone.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been interested in photography. In 2019 I picked up a digital camera from my grandmother and started experimenting with various filters and select functions. A few months later, I decided to step into film photography; the film was different for me. From then on, I developed a passion and drive for photography, ameliorating my craft. It’s a timeless way to capture moments and has been the blueprint.

Let’s dig deeper into the story – has it been an easy path, and if not, what challenges have you overcome?
In July of 2021, some friends and I took a vacation to Savannah, Georgia. We decided to go to the beach, and I decided to take some scenic pictures of the ocean, sand, pillars, etc. The road has had some speed bumps and obstacles. Due to some clumsiness, I dropped my camera in the water and completely ruined it. After our trip, I carried my camera to various repair shops, but the imminent discovery was already made. The camera was deemed irreparable. It was my first camera, and the memories and overall experience brought me to a depressing space. I was stuck in a creator’s block for an extended period, but after months of uncertainty, I could pull myself out and return to work.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a film photographer who specializes in portraits. I love to capture moments of various emotions through a cinematic eye. The joy I feel when I am behind the camera exhilarates me, it genuinely makes me so present in time. I am most proud of the photography community. It feels like a home of different people all honing their craft and doing the same thing bringing us closer together—which makes it not so different after all. I feel what separates me from others is my open-mindedness. I’m always open to changing my style, approach, and overall imagery. I’m always prepared to embrace change, whether in technology, social media trends, etc.

We’d love to hear about your fond memories from growing up.
My favorite childhood memory is decorating the house with Christmas decorations. The joy of all my family members now makes me feel connected and grateful to experience that.
