Meet Carly Oberle of Let’s Include Landon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Oberle

Hi Carly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We started our nonprofit in 2023 with the strong passion for our son Landon to be included in his community and in life just as his neurotypical peers. Landon loves sports and plays on regular teams. We started Let’s Include Landon to offer competitive sports for neurodiverse kids. Our mission is to connect kids with and without disabilities through sports. We want the kids to truly play together. Not on segregated teams, separate leagues or leagues where peers are helpers for their disabled peers. Everyone wins when we include. We had our kickoff 5k June 2024. Since then we have hosted inclusive basketball, soccer, and swimming events. As well as hosting a concert and being in a parade. We have had local city councils proclaim months as disability inclusion months and aim to change perceptions of society that may be limiting to people with disabilities.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have such a wonderful network of family, friends and people in our community who have been excited about participating. One challenge is reaching more families outside of our network but slowly with each event we are reaching more people. One need we have is funding. We would be able to host more events with more funding such as week long camps or seasonal leagues.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We help change perceptions in society about people with differences who have a disability, are neurodivergent or have developmental delays. We host sports events with a message. We have the kids really connect with each other. We have been fortunate to have sports companies want to volunteer with us to help out on our events so we have professional coaching. And we get our volunteers to work alongside of them. We have a positive message and a fun environment.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Thankful for my family and their constant support. Thankful for professionals who helped me setup the business initially, friends who have attended multiple events, friends who have donated, community partners, partners in the sports community who have volunteered their time.
