Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Powers.
Hi Casey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started with a love for interior design and going back to school at 26 to get my degree in interior design. I have been in the industry for 25 years, most of which have been spent managing to the trade textile showrooms, from Brunschwig & Fils to Kravet to a multi-line agent showroom. I love working with designers and being surrounded by all the beautiful home furnishings.
I have always been an artist but got away from it for several years. Fortunately, I found my way back and found a way to turn my art into textiles! I started by selling a couple patterns to a printer but found that I could easily have my own name on my work. Being an interior designer and having access to so wide range of textile brands, I feel as giving me a good eye for textile design. My aesthetic is bold; I love color!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a slow journey, for sure. It takes time to get the word out there and money to invest in the sampling for showrooms and outside reps to present your product to the interior design community. It’s moved much slower than I have wanted, but I keep trucking along!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have a wide variety of mediums that I would with. I blame or sometimes thank ADHD for not staying focused on one task. Therefore, I do acrylic and mixed media on canvas, as well as watercolor collage work. But I am most excited and proud of my textile line Momma and the Pea Studio.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Raleigh is a great city and has a diverse design community, which I am proud to have gotten know.
