Today, we’d like to introduce you to Cat Corchado.
Hi Cat, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born into the military in 1957. My dad had already enlisted in the US Air Force, and I was officially a military brat. We traveled all over, and I never regretted moving from place to place. It was exciting and different, not to mention the fact that I thought everyone lived this way.
I have always been interested in sports and have set my sights on the Olympics when life has a funny way of changing those plans. At the age of 17, I was a single mom and not sure of my options, with the exception of getting married. That idea did not appeal to me, but I felt I had no other options. After a couple of divorces, I decided to follow my Dad’s footsteps into the Air Force.
It was there I learned how to rely on ME. Being a mom and on active duty was, to date, the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. It was in the military I met my husband of 30 years and made the decision to make my life about health and wellness. I started my Small Space Pilates business two years ago, and my podcast, Sisters-n-Service, was started during the pandemic.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a single mother, being in the military as a single mother, especially when single moms did not have a great reputation, gave up my dream of being an Olympian.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been in the fitness industry for almost 40 years. It is a virtual fitness platform for all midlife women who want to feel better in their bodies. SS Pilates has a no-perfection policy allowed. Come as you are in your home and your comfy clothes.
I specialize in Movement, which is why I call myself a Movement Specialist. It’s what I have been doing – watching people move. I specialize in Weight Training, Pilates, and Active Isolated Stretching (AIS), and I am also a Cancer Exercise Training Specialist (CETI). What sets me apart is that I can correct form, whether it’s online or in person, and I always try to educate clients about what they are doing and why they’re doing it… always with a sense of humor.
Everyone has the right to feel good in their body and help make fitness NOT so heavy. I believe in a try before you buy, so I offer a free week of classes that include weights, Pilates, and stretching; I am always willing to meet with any woman who wants to know how to get started.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Tenacity, passion, vision, willingness to learn, and not afraid to make mistakes.
