Today we’d like to introduce you to Coby Hall
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a self proclaimed science nerd and have been my whole life. I grew up playing with at home science kits, looked up to people like Mrs. Frizzle and Bill Nye, and joined every science club I could growing up. So it was no secret that I would go on to get my Master’s Degree in Biotechnology one day. I had always believed photography was fascinating, but it wasn’t something that I took seriously in the early days and never imagined it would be a pathway I would go down.
I bought my first entry-level camera at the age of 30 and began traveling to different countries alone with my camera in hand as a way to decompress from my stressful career in the sciences. I was single at the time, and looking back, I believe I was searching for something at that time of my life. Photography combined with travel scratched an itch in my life that I was missing.
During the thick of Covid, I met my now husband, and the growth of our relationship shed new light on the world of photography to me. We are a non-traditional couple, as he is 50 and has lived a previous life. I was nearly 35 with an independent mindset. It made sense for us to have a wedding that spoke to who were as a couple. Therefore, we had an adventure elopement in Moab, Utah, in 2022 and spent nearly a month out West for our honeymoon. The experience was one-of-a-kind and was the perfect wedding for who we are as a couple.
On the last day of our honeymoon, we were hiking The Narrows in Zion National Park. And if you have ever done the hike, you know it is nearly 10 miles in close to knee-deep or higher water in the Virgin River. To say you need to concentrate & be dedicated is an understatement. But while stabilizing one foot in front of the other in the river over the next 10 hours, a voice called to me and said that I was going to bring the same amazing wedding experience to couples on the East Coast. It felt as if God himself spoke to me in that river and told me I was to bring the same joy and happiness to couples back home. A few days after we got back from our Honeymoon , I opened my business and began diving deep into everything I could regarding wedding photography and the wedding industry. The rest has been history ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth, as I believe most business owners would agree. I started from the ground level within an industry that I had no prior knowledge in. I had never opened a business before, and was completely unaware of the challenges that can come up on a daily basis. From a personal standpoint, I also never imagined how personally attached I would get to each couple, their story, and wanting to give back to them.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in light and airy wedding photography for couples who are madly in love, want to have fun, and cannot wait to enter the next stage of their lives together. What sets me apart is my approach to couples and focusing on what matters most to them for their wedding. It is important to me to tell their respective stories in a way that showcases who they are, the lives that they have lived, and how that impacts this new chapter they are entering as a new family unit.
I am known for being down-to-earth, relaxed, and humorous, and it is also how I approach wedding planning with my couples. I cater to all couples but my specialty tends to lean more toward modern couples with modern-day needs that speaks to where they are in their lives today.
How do you think about happiness?
Watching others be happy. I know that sounds slightly cliche but the biggest thing that makes me happy is being able to deliver happiness to others. And an iced coffee while shopping at Target for my two fur babies 🙂
