Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Noffsinger.
Dave, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into the professional trades began when I moved to the Raleigh, North Carolina area from West Virginia in 1999. At the time, I was still searching for a definitive career path when an incredible opportunity presented itself: a job working alongside a local multi-trade contractor named Chip Mims of CBM Enterprises.
Working with Chip became the foundational cornerstone of my career. Chip served as an invaluable mentor, giving me the chance to prove myself while cross-training me across a wide variety of disciplines, including plumbing, electrical work, and general remodeling. Under his guidance, I didn’t just learn how to turn a wrench; I learned the intricacies of multi-trade construction and eventually earned my Master Plumbing License.
After nearly 15 years of honing my craft, my wife, Cyndi Aragon, and I decided it was time to write a new chapter. Cyndi stepped away from her role as the Vice President of a software company, and together, we co-founded NCWaterHeaters.com LLC in 2013. Like many local trade businesses, we started out humbly, operating directly out of our garage. Driven by our shared values of honesty, transparent pricing, and unparalleled customer service, we quickly outgrew that space and expanded into a dedicated office and warehouse.
Today, I am incredibly proud to say that what started as a single water heater venture has grown into a five-division, multi-trade company. Alongside NCWaterHeaters.com, we operate NCPlumbingServices, NCHomeRemodeling, and NCHomeElectric, allowing us to provide a complete package of plumbing, electrical, and construction services. Recently, we also acquired Accurate Backflow to offer comprehensive backflow repair and certification to our commercial and residential customers.
Throughout this growth, my professional credentials and our company’s reputation have remained rooted in the highest industry standards. In addition to the many certifications and awards our team is heavily involved in advancing our trade through the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association of North Carolina (PHCC of NC).
However, building a successful business isn’t just about the bottom line; it is about community. Cyndi and I believe strongly in using our business as a vehicle to give back to the communities we serve. We actively sponsor and participate in philanthropic efforts with a number of local charities.
When I am not in the office or training our technicians to carry on our core values, you can find me at home in Fuquay-Varina with my family. With nearly 30 years in the trades, I look forward to continuing to teach the next generation of professionals and providing the Triangle area with the ethical, master-level craftsmanship they deserve.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, our journey hasn’t been without its hurdles. One of the most significant challenges we face is keeping pace with our own growth from a staffing perspective. Finding qualified, dedicated professionals who want to learn and commit themselves to the skilled trades is harder than ever. With an aging workforce retiring and fewer young people choosing to enter the plumbing and electrical fields, building a reliable team requires immense effort. We have tackled this by creating a culture of continuous learning and mentorship, much like the guidance I received early in my career.
Another major obstacle has been the volatile landscape of digital marketing and maintaining our online presence. In today’s market, mastering your craft is only half the battle; the other half is ensuring customers can actually find you. We have had to navigate the ever changing online platforms and search engine algorithms that can bury a local company overnight. Recently, with the rise of Artificial Intelligence changing how people search for services, we faced a stark reality that traditional search strategies are no longer enough. Generative AI now summarizes information directly in search results, which means local businesses have to adapt or risk losing significant online visibility.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At NCWaterHeaters.com LLC, we are a family-owned, multi-trade home services company headquartered right here in Fuquay-Varina. While we built our initial reputation as the Triangle’s dedicated water heater specialists, we have grown over the past decade into a complete, five-division service provider. Alongside our water heater team, we operate NCPlumbingServices, NCHomeRemodeling, NCHomeElectric, and our newest addition, Accurate Backflow.
Whether a homeowner needs a standard tank replacement, an advanced tankless or hybrid heat pump conversion, an electrical panel upgrade, a full bathroom remodel, or commercial backflow testing, our team delivers master-level craftsmanship under one unified standard of quality.
We are best known as the area’s go to authority on water heating technology. Water heaters aren’t just an “add on” service for us, they are our core passion. We specialize in everything from traditional gas and electric storage tanks to cutting edge systems like Hybrids, gas tankless units, and the innovative Essency water heater platform. Beyond installation, we are known for our deep technical diagnostics, ensuring that every system we install is properly sized, engineered for the homeowner’s needs, and installed properly.
What truly sets us apart is our absolute rejection of high pressure, commission driven sales tactics. In the trades today, too many large corporate outfits send out salespeople disguised as technicians whose main goal is to push the most expensive product possible. We operate on a customer education first model. I spend a tremendous amount of time writing guides and breaking down the real science behind water heating systems so our clients can make smart decisions.
What are your plans for the future?
As we look toward the future, our vision for the business is focused on thoughtful expansion and continuing to elevate the level of service we provide across North Carolina.
We are actively exploring opportunities to extend our geographic footprint into new regions of the state, bringing our transparent, education first approach to even more communities. At the same time, we are broadening our scope to take on a larger volume of commercial projects and diving deeper into whole home water filtration, helping families and businesses combat emerging water quality issues like microplastics and “forever chemicals” (PFAS). We are also laying the groundwork for a potential HVAC division, which would allow us to offer a truly complete heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical solution under one roof.
Beyond expanding our services, the most meaningful part of our future plan is keeping the business firmly in the family. We are currently working closely with my stepson, Brandon Johnson, grooming him to step into leadership and eventually take over the day-to-day operations. Brandon has grown up learning the trade, the business, and most importantly, our core values of integrity and hard work.
Knowing that the company will eventually be in such capable hands gives Cyndi and I comfort that the company will stay in the family and have a legacy. It also means that in the coming years, I will be able to step back, transition into a mentorship role, and finally spend a little more time out on the water with a fishing pole in hand.
