Meet Denise Peise

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Peise.

Hi Denise, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I have always been a creative person. It was not until my family and I moved to North Carolina from NJ that I really found my groove creatively. I have access to a wealth of pine cones, which sparked me to begin creating my pine cone flower wreaths.

I also started to create hanging beaded mobiles when I moved to North Carolina. I have so many hiking opportunities and found beautiful root pieces and branches in nature that I wanted to use in my art. I use these as bases for my hanging beaded mobiles. I am always inspired by nature.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My art progression seems like a smooth road. The struggles along the way were dealing with 3 cancer diagnoses and the aftermath and frequent migraine headaches. My art has been an outlet for me that has brought peace to my life and has nurtured my soul.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create art using inspiration and elements of nature. I make handmade pine cone flower wreaths, hanging beaded mobiles, and mosaic pieces. These are my more popular creations. I also make seashell suncatchers and more.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Since my art is displayed and sold via my Etsy Shop, there is not much risk involved. Where I have taken risks is in my personal life in dealing with my three cancer diagnoses. I took a path to heal that was not the norm. I completely overhauled my lifestyle and made very difficult decisions about the treatment options available to me at that time. During Covid lockdown, I wrote a book about my experiences called “Metamorphosis.” In many ways, dealing with cancer has been life changing, for the better. It gave me a renewed sense of gratitude and a realization of how important it is to live a grounded life. I am healthier than I have ever been and have been able to navigate my cancer on my terms.
