Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Reaves.
Hi Dominique, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Wow where do I begin. Beauty has always been my passion since I was a kid massaging my grandmothers feet lol. Then makeup became another love of mine in high school. I didn’t go straight to college after I graduated in 2017 just wasn’t the route I wanted to go at the time. Definitely moving out of my hometown Sanford, North Carolina was the only thing on my mind because it wasn’t really a lot of job opportunities out there. So I moved to the RDU area with my dad. Found a job at Claire’s worked there for 4 years. Then boom Covid happened. Claire’s shut down I sat at home and practiced my skills with makeup launched my business name at the time “SlaybyDa” did a couple of faces but then ended up working in pharmaceutical for about a year. Definitely wasn’t happy there that’s not something I genuinely wanted to do but they were hiring so why not apply right. I worked multiple jobs at the time. So therefore went back to Claire’s then ended up getting recruited to work at a brand new Sephora location in 2022. That’s when my life changed being surrounded by all things beauty and learning different sections from hair,skin,makeup & fragrance. Of course I was either on register or on the sales floor but, where I wanted to be was the girl doing the services. So I knew in order for that to happen I had to go to school so I attended Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill in 2022 to become an licensed esthetician. After I graduated I finally became the girl doing the services at Sephora but not a lot because I ended up getting a job at EWC to become a waxer in 2023. Bye bye Sephora. Worked at ewc for 2 years. 3-4 months into the ewc job clients asked me why I don’t get my own thing and work for myself because I’m so good. I’m just like huh me? I don’t see myself running a business and I’m not sure if waxing is something I want to do. The longer I was at ewc I felt drained, burnt out, crying behind closed doors. “Dominique’s beauty and beyond” waxing business was made I ended up getting a suite didn’t start taking clients yet because I needed to supply my suite with supplies, rent, website. All my money went into that so eventually I had no choice but to start taking a few maybe 2-3 clients a week just enough to afford the weekly rent. Then the first week of November 2024 I lost a family member and moved from Cary to Durham. When I got back to work I lost my job as well because ewc found out about my business. So I knew this was the time to go all gas no breaks on my business and focus giving it everything I got walking by faith not knowing how far Ima go. I did instacart to get me extra money on the days I didn’t have clients. Now fast forward a year & 9 months into my business. I am killing it, I love what I do, I’m seeing new faces everyday. I prayed everyday to get me to this moment right here and honestly I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It feels so amazing to service so many people making everybody feel confident building so many relationships. I also actually enjoy coming into work lol. I’m so proud at how far I’ve came and can’t wait for what else is coming. So this is my story. Dominique’s Beauty & Beyond🩵
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A struggle for me I would say is when I started my business I had lost my job. Ended up getting 2-3 clients a week having to do instacart to be able to afford my bills. Coming in on days I didn’t have clients just showing up for my business.

Dominique’s beauty and beyond specializes in waxing for woman and men just not the men’s Brazilian area. Also vajacials as well with a little makeup services. What sets me apart is my personality I’m authentically me on and off camera. I’m raw and uncut I’m going to be honest with you when it comes to your skin and what we should do to fix it. My clients say I’m thorough, professional, and my suite is clean. I’m proud at how far I’ve gotten and how much I’ve accomplished even though my business hasn’t hit 2 years yet.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My first year in business I did everything myself just to see how I would do. So something clearly wasn’t working good enough I still needed more clients and somebody to push me when it comes to content because that’s definitely not my strong suit. So I had got me a mentor in April 2026 Tiffany the owner of VluxeSkin in Chapel Hill, NC. When Tiffany became my mentor is win I seen a tremendous growth into my business and I recommend her to anybody that’s looking for a mentor. I was in her 6 week bootcamp and let me tell you it was definitely a bootcamp she gave me homework and everything,
