Hi Dr. Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey has been anything but linear, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve spent my career serving others in a variety of roles, including law enforcement, criminal justice, higher education, and now entrepreneurship. Today, I serve as a Clinical Instructor in forensic health while also leading Zoe Life Naturalz LLC, a business centered on career clarity and holistic wellness. I’m also the author of both fiction and nonfiction books, including After the Applause, which encourages high-achieving women to pursue alignment over constant achievement.
Education has always been important to me, and earning my Ph.D. in Criminal Justice was a milestone that reinforced my belief that purpose often grows through perseverance. Along the way, I’ve learned that success isn’t about fitting into one box—it’s about embracing the different gifts God has given you and allowing them to work together.
Whether I’m teaching students, writing stories, mentoring professionals, creating wellness products, or speaking about purpose and resilience, my mission remains the same: to help people recognize their potential, move with intention, and create lives that align with who they were created to be. Every chapter of my journey has prepared me for the next, and I’m excited to see where this path continues to lead.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs and professionals, I’ve had to navigate seasons of uncertainty, self-doubt, financial challenges, and balancing multiple responsibilities. There were times when I was working full-time, building a business, pursuing my Ph.D., and writing books simultaneously. Those seasons required discipline, sacrifice, and a willingness to keep going even when progress wasn’t immediately visible.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success doesn’t always come with immediate recognition. There have been projects that I poured my heart into that didn’t receive the response I expected at first. As an author and entrepreneur, that can be discouraging, but I’ve learned not to measure purpose by popularity. Sometimes you’re planting seeds that won’t bloom until much later.
I’ve also learned the importance of protecting my peace and staying true to who I am. Whether in higher education, business, or publishing, it’s easy to compare your journey to someone else’s. I’ve had to remind myself that my assignment is unique, and faith has been the foundation that keeps me grounded through every transition.
Looking back, I wouldn’t trade those challenges because they shaped the resilience, empathy, and perspective I bring to everything I do today. They didn’t stop my journey—they refined it.

I also want to encourage people not to let delayed success discourage them. Some of the most meaningful work happens long before anyone else notices it. Stay consistent, keep learning, and don’t be afraid to pivot when God opens a new door.
