Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Zain Husain.
Dr. Husain, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a dual board-certified dermatologist and Mohs micrographic surgeon with fellowship training in cosmetic dermatology. My medical journey began in the accelerated 7-year BS/MD program at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where I graduated with top honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
I went on to complete my dermatology residency at Georgetown University Hospital, serving as chief resident in my final year. Afterward, I pursued a dual fellowship in Mohs surgery and cosmetic dermatology at Montefiore Medical Center, which gave me extensive experience in advanced skin cancer surgery, reconstruction, and aesthetic procedures such as injectables, lasers, and body contouring.
Early in my career, I worked in private practice and taught dermatology at George Washington University. Later, I returned to New Jersey, where I built a thriving independent dermatology practice and taught at Rutgers. Eventually, my wife and I decided to move our family to North Carolina, where I founded Noor Dermatology and Aesthetics in Cary. My vision was to create a state-of-the-art center that combines medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, while providing patients with compassionate, personalized care in a welcoming environment.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting my own private dermatology practice was anything but a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was balancing the clinical side with the business side. As physicians, we’re trained extensively in medicine, but running a practice also requires skills in operations, staffing, finance, and leadership. In the beginning, I had to learn how to build a team, implement efficient systems, and create a patient-centered culture, all while maintaining the highest standard of clinical care.
Another challenge was earning the trust of a new community. When I opened my doors, I was essentially starting from scratch—building relationships, creating awareness, and establishing a reputation. That took patience, consistency, and a lot of hard work.
Looking back, though, those challenges were incredibly rewarding. They pushed me to grow not just as a dermatologist, but as an entrepreneur and a leader. Today, seeing the practice flourish and knowing that patients feel cared for and confident makes all those early struggles worthwhile.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Noor Dermatology and Aesthetics, our mission is to provide comprehensive, compassionate, and personalized care for every patient who walks through our doors. We are a full-service dermatology practice, offering medical, surgical, and cosmetic services all under one roof. That means we can take care of everything from common skin conditions like acne and eczema to complex skin cancers that require Mohs surgery, and also help patients feel their best with advanced cosmetic treatments such as injectables, laser procedures, and body contouring.
What sets us apart is the combination of expertise and experience with a true patient-first approach. I’m dual board-certified in dermatology and Mohs micrographic surgery, and I completed fellowship training in cosmetic dermatology. But beyond credentials, what we emphasize at Noor is listening—really taking the time to understand a patient’s concerns, educating them about their options, and developing treatment plans that are tailored to their unique needs and goals.
We’ve worked hard to create a state-of-the-art practice in Cary that doesn’t just deliver excellent results, but also offers a welcoming, comfortable environment. The feedback we often hear from patients is that they not only feel well cared for, but also genuinely valued as individuals—and that’s something I’m very proud of.
From a brand perspective, Noor is about light, healing, and trust. Our goal is to bring those values into every patient interaction. I want readers to know that whether they come to us for skin cancer treatment, a chronic skin condition, or cosmetic rejuvenation, they can expect the highest level of expertise paired with compassionate, personalized care.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Starting Noor Dermatology and Aesthetics was absolutely one of the biggest risks I’ve taken in my career and in my life. My wife and I made the decision to move to North Carolina from New Jersey, leaving behind an established practice, family, and a professional network. We were essentially starting from scratch—new community, new patients, new relationships. At the same time, we purchased our own medical space and invested in building a state-of-the-art practice from the ground up. On top of that, we were also building a new home, raising two young daughters, and preparing to welcome a third child.
It was definitely a leap of faith, but I saw it as an opportunity to create the type of practice I had always envisioned—one that blended advanced medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology with a truly patient-centered experience. The risk was real, but so was the reward.
What helped me through those challenges was staying grounded in my ‘why’—to serve patients with excellence and compassion, and to build something lasting for my family and our community. Looking back, I’m proud that we embraced the uncertainty, because it pushed me to grow not only as a physician but also as an entrepreneur, leader, and parent. Today, seeing Noor Dermatology thrive while balancing family life is proof that sometimes the greatest risks bring the most meaningful rewards.
