Today we’d like to introduce you to Elle Kennedy.
Hi Elle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my journey as a mom of 3 just wanting to document my children during field trips and family outings. My husband and kids gifted me my first DSLR on Mother’s Day. It wasn’t long until I ventured into taking photos of other children and families. I loved interacting with my clients, and I loved looking at their photos as I went through them to edit, seeing the happiness and organic moments that was shared between them. It made me smile! Eventually, I gradually made a website and officially opened my buisness as a family photographer. It was great! I met many families.
A friend of mine was getting married soon. She asked me to photograph her wedding. (I’ll never forget this) being nervous, I said yes! I loved how fast-paced it was. I loved seeing two people begin their lives together and being a part of it. I loved it all! And so, this day that I’ll never forget is when I decided that I’d be a wedding photographer. My friend who entrusted me on such an important day, moments that they’d use to remember for a lifetime. I’ll always be forever grateful.
Today I am still a family photographer but also a wedding photographer!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all!!! First, I don’t at all recommend doing this. However, I left me job cold and dry, thinking I knew all the ropes. Wrong!!! Actually, I knew nothing about keeping up a buisness. How to manage my COBD. I just knew and thought, “I got this” After a time, I taught myself by watching videos and reading (a lot). I also asked another photographer if she wouldn’t mind mentoring me. I loved her work. She was so nice. Many groups I was a part of made me cry, sad, questioned myself. But because of this, I believe community over competition. My mentor was the only one who never put me down. Now, of course, with any buisness you have amazing clients and not-so-amazing clients. But it all builds me up more. Everything is a learning experience. Everyone is different.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Wedding and Portrait photographer based in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Most of my clients reside in Washington, DC, Fairfax, and surrounding areas. My work is cool, timeless, with a light and airy romance feel. My passion is wedding and families, but I also love branding. I make all my efforts into providing a joyful experience with me while paying very close to detail and what my customers expect.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was a class clown but quiet and shy if that makes any sense! I helped a lot with my brother. My mom was a single mom in the military. I remember cooking chef Boyardee since it was the easiest to make while my mom worked overnight. It was just my brother and I. I played basketball and loved track and field. I loved to babysit and helping others.
