Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilie Sheridan.
Hi Emilie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey to becoming an acupuncturist and opening my own practice has been exciting, challenging, and more than anything, fulfilling. After leaving the Army National Guard, I knew I wanted to pursue graduate school in a health-related field and give back to the veteran community. I found acupuncture and East Asian Medicine to be a beautiful medicine that sees the body as a whole rather than in parts. I fell in love with the rich history and the connection to nature, and decided to pursue my Master’s in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. My husband was stationed at Fort Bragg during my last year of school, which brought us to Fayetteville. I opened my practice in September 2024 and have been learning how to be an entrepreneur and a new practitioner simultaneously. I love the challenge of being a business owner, and have found that surrounding myself with other inspiring women business owners has made the journey so much more enjoyable.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a new acupuncturist and business owner means I face challenges almost every day. Overall, I have been blessed with a supportive community, wonderful patients, and am in an office with the most kind and encouraging group of women who are also in the holistic healthcare world and are willing to offer advice and support anytime I need it. It can be hard to learn how to balance building a business with taking care of myself, which I’m sure many business owners can relate to. I have had to learn to implement better systems to support me as I grow, so I spend less time on administrative tasks and more time on patient care. On the practitioner side, I feel like I am constantly learning and refining my skills to better serve my patients. It can be overwhelming when everything feels new, and I take it one day at a time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I offer acupuncture, herbal medicine, and integrative medicine appointments, during which I perform DUTCH hormone testing or other holistic labwork for patients. I studied Five Element Acupuncture, which focuses on boosting your body’s natural healing ability. This medicine focuses on the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and emotions to treat the deepest level of disharmony. Every treatment is tailored to the individual patient, so no two treatments look the same. This allows a level of individualized care that is hard to find, and I am very proud of the attention I can give each patient. It is very important to me that we do not just put a Band-Aid on symptoms. We aim to create a community of individuals healing from the inside out.
When people start to heal and feel more like themselves, they can be more present in their communities, and I believe that is where the real healing happens —not just for the patient but for the community.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I joined the Ohio Army National Guard right out of high school and served for just over 5 years doing Public Affairs.
