Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Harris.
Hi Faith, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, everyone! I’m delighted to introduce myself as Faith Harris, the owner of Wrightsville Beach Scene. Originally from the notorious Wilson County, I spent 18 years calling it home before heading off to Raleigh for my college education. After successfully completing my degree at Meredith College in 2022, I decided to plant my roots in the coastal city of Wilmington, where I embarked on a new chapter of my life by establishing my own business. Growing up near the beach, I’ve always had this magnetic connection to the ocean, making Wilmington the perfect spot for a young entrepreneur like me to embrace the beach life and connect with fellow go-getters. Now, as the owner of Wrightsville Beach Scene, I am dedicated to creating a fun and individualistic coastal clothing brand for locals and visitors. Design has always been my biggest passion. Once I settled into my new home, you could always find me on Wrightsville Beach, channeling the creativity around me into designing. During the winter months, I’d bring along my sweet “manager” poodle, Cape, and we’d both find it incredibly therapeutic. Not only that, but the beach is always an excellent way for me to network, make new friends, and immerse myself in the local community, which is precisely why I launched my venture, Wrightsville Beach Scene. As a 23-year-old business owner, I’m living my dream!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This whole venture has been a ton of fun so far. It took a slow start, but I always find myself daydreaming about the day when I stroll around Wrightsville Beach and spot a random person sporting one of my t-shirts. One of the things I’ve absolutely loved about this journey is getting to know the local business owners who help bring my designs to life. The team at Creative Ads Screenprinting has been incredibly instrumental in making my products shine. They consistently go above and beyond for me, and I’m truly grateful to have them in my corner. The guys at Minuteman Press of Wilmington have also been super supportive and always ready to lend a helping hand. Looking ahead, I’m hopeful that I’ll have the opportunity to participate in some pop-up events and connect with more people within the small business community. It’s all about fostering those connections and being a part of something bigger. I’m excited to see what the future holds and where this journey will take me next.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
When I’m not busy designing for Wrightsville Beach Scene, I actually have a full-time gig as an Operations Manager for a commercial real estate team called KW Commercial ThisPropertyAvailable.com, based in Raleigh, NC. My journey with this team started back in 2021 when I joined as an intern. Luckily, after graduating, I was offered a permanent position, and I couldn’t be happier. I genuinely adore my job and the incredible people I get to work with every day. I feel truly blessed to have an amazing mentor and boss named Diego Munoz, who has not only taught me a ton about managing operations but also about being a genuinely good person. Diego has played a significant role in shaping my design path as well. He’s always given me the freedom to incorporate my design skills into our team’s work, and his unwavering support has been instrumental in propelling my design journey forward. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities and experiences that my job has provided me, and I’m excited to continue growing both as a designer and as a valuable member of my team.
One thing that truly fills me with pride is the incredible connections I’ve formed over the past few years. Despite the challenges of COVID disrupting everyone’s social lives, I managed to find five lifelong best friends in college who feel more like sisters to me. Shoutout to Lexi, Julia, Carson, Payton, and Sammy—they’ve been there for me through thick and thin. We were fortunate enough to live together for two years until graduation forced us to go our separate ways. When I initially moved to Wilmington, I was a bit nervous about not having many connections here. However, fate had other plans, and I ended up meeting two more amazing best friends, McAuley and Bree. Now, we all live together, and it’s an absolute blast. Friendships and relationships mean the world to me—they’re the foundation of my happiness. I feel incredibly blessed to have these seven girls in my life. No matter what, I know I can always count on them. I also want to give a special shoutout to my boyfriend, Thorp. He’s been an unwavering source of support, always encouraging my wildest ideas and coming up with some pretty crazy ones of his own. I’m truly proud of how far we’ve come together.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
One quality that I always strive to uphold on this journey of building my own business is perseverance. It took me a while to grasp the fact that rejection is inevitable. There will be tough times, days when sales are slow, social media posts that don’t quite hit the mark, and more. Yet, deep down, I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, and success awaits me in the future. It’s also comforting to know that even the owner of WD-40 faced rejection a whopping 39 times before finding success—hence the name WD-40 itself. Similarly, Michael Jordan, widely regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time, faced numerous rejections before making it big. It happens to everyone, but what sets the truly remarkable individuals apart is their unwavering perseverance. As I go on this journey, I aspire to embody that spirit of perseverance fully, with the hope of inspiring those around me to not give up.
